Ultio 1 Posted August 19, 2012 Well, we all know that the gun's used to be like they should be in a military SIMULATOR...they did the right damage. The Lee Enfield might be the most notorious noob weapon, but in real life getting shot in the chest by it WILL kill you unless you get shot in the middle of an operating room with an entire chest ready to be transplanted to you. The guns were Nerfed in Arma II with no real consideration for DayZ players but now that DayZ is going standalone why not bring them back to full glory. I mean, the lovely MP5SD is such a great weapon, but if it did not take 5 shots to kill a zombie or an entire mag to take down a player, it would be even better, like it used to be.p.s. I looked around and searched and could not find a topic on this, so my appoligies if there is already one.

Frozen (DayZ) 144 Posted August 19, 2012 The guns were Nerfed in Arma II they did not nerfed but fucked it up. you can check this link to get what i mean.this nerf was made because the SUDDENLY realized(so fucking slow) that soldiers use armor on the battlefield. but there is no armor in DayZ so it kinda screwed here. bazbake 456 Posted August 19, 2012 Even without armor, their damage tables were ill-conceived. The design was based around long-range gun combat, critical existence failure, and a completely different health scheme, so they basically decided, "Fuck anything that's not a rifle" and designed damage tables that had nerfed anything without a rifled barrel. Mix in a little bad science ballistics trauma based on prevailing myths instead of hard science and you ended up with damage tables that had always been crappy. And THEN they remembered body armor.I've posted a lot of hard science on ballistics trauma and wounds and hope the designers pay more attention to it when they get a hold of it because Arma II is a joke.1) People are incapacitated by loss of oxygen to the brain. This means big holes in the human body from big bullets or the destruction of the medulla oblongata.2) High velocity bullets do not cause lasting trauma because human flesh is elastic and temporary cavitation doesn't cause lasting wounds. Slower velocity bullets that deform and crush on impact are deadlier than equivalent high velocity bullets.3) Shockwaves from bullets do not cause extra trauma because human tissue is elastic and can recover from massive temporary cavitation in a mere fraction of a second.4) Debunking the myth that bullets with more energy cause greater damage. It's all there. The idea of rifles causing more damage than handguns with higher calibers is the biggest issue that the damage tables need to address. A game like COD can get away with it because of body armor, and even then the damage between 9mms and NATO rounds are at least kind of close, but a game like DayZ with ZERO BODY ARMOR is totally broken if it starts with Arma II's already screwed up views on ballistics and then lets them add armor on TOP of it.http://www.rkba.org/research/fackler/wrong.pdfhttp://ammo.ar15.com/project/Fackler_Articles/effects_of_small_arms.pdfhttp://www.firearmstactical.com/pdf/fbi-hwfe.pdfhttp://www.rathcoombe.net/sci-tech/ballistics/myths.html#wli
Ultio 1 Posted August 19, 2012 Now if only the DayZ guys will actually look at the very nice information you provided...all of it is true and the current bullet damages do not make sense really, I mean 7 shots to the chest from a 1911 will not even kill a player and will probably not even incapacitate him, but in real life that size of a bullet will down you with just one shot, and in the chest at that, your dead. The reason everyone complains about how all the "noobs" are using 50's is because its the only rifle left in the game that can kill a player without worry of them combat logging. Its ridiculous really. Guns such as the DMR are made for you to aim center body mass because that will be more than enough to take down someone, but in the game you need a headshot or they will just get hit and combat log. I love the DMR, but my current M107 takes its place.
