Low FPS any setting - computer isn't using full resources?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm seeing a lot of threads about people with issues with their FPS.

I seem to be having the same one and have tried all assortments of tweaks and patches. I've used just about every Launch setting option, the new beta and every graphical option and none make any difference whatsover

When looking at what resources are being used, I see that DayZ is using only a small amount and most of my PC is left idle.

So I was wondering, is there any way to force it to use more? I've attempted using the cpu=4 settings etc but they haven't changed anything

Cheers,

Have you tried upgrading to 1.7?

dayz staff said fps problems fixed in 1.7 but all people still have low fps

There's other issues here, but I'll be damned if I know what they are. My bro and I have machines that are nearly identical numerically (although his is Intel/nvidia, whereas mine is all AMD), and we're using the same 1.7 w/ the latest beta build, and for unknown reasons I can hit 60+ fps on near maxed settings, and he can barely crack ten no matter what his graphics are set to.

It's not a 1.6/1.7 issue in all circumstances, certainly not in this one... maybe it's an nvidia thing? I dunno.

My fps is totally inconsistent, it changes everytime I join a new server.

Running 1.7, hardware wise:

i7 920

6GB ram

HD6970

Running msi Afterburner OSD and it shows GPU usage at anything from 0% upto 50%, however it usually hovers around 0 and I get 10fps ><

It's actually an issue with some servers not cleaning up properly. Some servers, I get 10-15 FPS. My normal FPS in this game is 40-60 (more than good). It's also not an nVidia thing, because I run a GeForce 55o Ti.

Me and two friends installed the latest beta batch today. Then, on DE10(beta server) my freinds had still high fps, but I suddenly had low fps... same issue on EU20.

Then I tried an American server and now I had super smooth high fps... strange!

I've been on many servers with all sorts of locations and versions, and i've never been on one which gave me decent FPS. It's often high when in a wide open area, but in towns it drops to around 15, which is unenjoyable for me

Euro server lag I would say is 99% due to the desync.

The vehicle patch killed the fps we had.

We really gave up with doing anything on our server until 1.7.1

AI in Arma 2 as alway's been a problem if object's like bodies etc are left behind or not cleaned up, a script take's care of that, well it should do... :)

Also the more object's, item's etc there is in a mission the more the engine as to work...

Arma 3's engine will be better coded we hope... :)

So this is more of a software issue rather than hardware? My cpu is at about 50% load, gpu 30% and half the ram in use still getting 25-35 fps

I should NOT be getting 15-25fps in large cities like Cherno, but I am.

GTX 480 1.5gb

i7 2600 3.4GHz

8gb RAM

7200 HDD

Changing graphics settings does NOT make a difference. I still get FPS in the unplayable range.

As a Serveradmin i can confirm Flying On Fumes's statement. Locations where you have much 'item' and 'zombie' spawn places getting crowded with dead bodies and items over time. Even it the Items and Bodies 'seems' to be away they are somehow still there.

Over time this will cause more and more 'stuff' your CPU/GPU have to calculate/render until the FPS drops to an unplayable level. Due the fact i am able to run the DE10 longer then 18 hours without the need to restart it from the serverside, i still have to restart it every 8-10 hours otherwise you can't play in Chernogorsk anymore.

After the serverrestart all FPS will raise up dramatically. This issue has nothing to do with the EU/DE Desync or sth like that. Its just a problem of the Engine of ArmA2 and/or of the script which should delete not used items over time.

That explains a lot, Caspar. I've noticed that newly restarted servers are sometimes the ones with the best FPS.

And I VERY often hear flies buzzing around already disappeared corpses in cities I visit, which led me to believe that the bodies were not 'actually' disappearing after death.

Casper you say

"Over time this will cause more and more 'stuff' your CPU/GPU have to calculate/render until the FPS drops to an unplayable level. "

that would suggest my cpu/gpu is under heavy load causing the drop but that isn't the case at all, my gpu is doing next to nothing while my cpu is sat around 50% load.

@tiff_lee,

If you don't change your ArmA2 Startup script, ArmA2 will use by default only 2 Cores. And i can imagine on one of those Cores is doing the Calculations. But i am not sure about this part. At least i know you can send a Attribute to the ArmA2 executable to use more CPU's. I know this because i am using 24 Cores for DE10.

btw. i cant check it myself what 'resource' of the Clientside is dropping the FPS because atm an Harddrive is broken ^^. But it would be interesting to know how you checked the GPU Load.
