Petition: Remove Military bodies to cure Artefacting / Screen Tearing

168 members have voted

  1. 1. Should rocket remove dead military bodies to fix the artefacting / tearing?

    • Yes, this is an easy temporary fix that will not affect gameplay at all until a real solution is culminated.

    • No, the dead, unlootable military bodies add too much depth and enrichment to Dayz. I couldn't manage without them.

I voted yes assuming it's 100% sure the dead bodies are what is causing it. If it is indeed the cause I really don't see why they haven't done this already..

Seems like a biased poll to me.

"I couldn't manage without them"?

If you don't want them temporarily removed it means you absolutely need them? How is this biased?

The temp fix proposed would take at most 5 minutes of development time while finding the real issue behind it could take months.

If you know nothing about computer game development why talk and make arguments about something you do not know?

It should be pretty obvious to anyone who has worked on a game with 3d models before. The LOD (level of detail) mesh for soldier corpses has been messed up. This means the lower resolution model, that you see from a distance, is the problem. You'll notice that if you get close enough to the corpse for the full resolution model to be visible, the problem goes away (for that one soldier corpse). You can even see how the low resolution model is completely invisible and you don't see the glitch at all, but getting close enough to the corpse causes the full res model to appear. Likely what has happened is they tried to optimize the lower resolution model, exported it wrong, used some wrong setting, and screwed it up. It should not be a difficult thing to fix.

Sure, it could be something else entirely... but I'd bet my beans that it's a LOD mesh, and simply removing soldier corpses would be a quick fix for most of us, or just rolling back that LOD mesh to before they fucked it up would be even better.

It would be a good fix seeing as the glitches make large areas of the map unplayable, thus we can't really test those areas for bugs either, so probably in their interest to remove them for the mean time till they can figure exactly what the problem is.

How will removing fixed bodies fix the map from going all acid trip? Does this mean walls and barns and such do this too? If so how will the removal of a few bodies fix a problem if there is tons of other objects in the world?

I have only had the clipping issue happen to me twice, and it was because I was near cities. I think these graphic errors probably have more to do with people personal computers and the crappy arma code, these things can be fixed in time. Maby try updating your drivers, logging out and back in can fix the problem. I think of all the things that need to be worked on this is a very minute issue.

Your poll is like something CNN would create, no data can be gathered from it. When something gets under your skin I don't think your immediate reaction should be to head to the forums and make a post. Take a breath eat some beans, you will feel better.

Temporary fix? He about replace the dead soldier models with body bag models. Change the colour to grey, as if it is a blanket draped over a corpse, and go from there. The ambiance is maintained with bodies strewn everywhere, but since I haven't seen the body bag models mess me up yet, I'll guess a swap should work while the bug is looked at.

It's a compromise that works. The carnage of the zombie infection and mass death remains evident, but the Artifact issue is replaced with something easier to process. Just change the image associated with the dead soldier files and away you go.

Sure I make it seem easy and I know that it isn't that simple, but there's usually a solution to a problem that makes most people happy. This might be one of them.

i feel that they should stay, we play the game to help find and fix bugs for the future of the game (although it is shitty to run into this bug) but saying that if they can not fix the problem quickly then remove the bodies until they figure out the issue so we can continue to play. this will bring other issues to light instead of being focused on this one major problem. i understand this is kind of riding the fence but i don't know how much they are working on this particular problem. if its on the back burner then remove them, otherwise they should stay.

Yes and we have all found this bug now take out the problem pieces that are not essential to the game so we can continue to "play this game to find bugs."

While the alpha/beta argument is valid, this issue can be considered game-breaking and should simply be taken out until it can be fixed. Corpses on the ground aren't worth the problems they are causing.
