Anyone notice a CPU spike while playing?

Recommended Posts

Generally my machine idles at 46 and goes up to maybe 50, 52 when playing but with DayZ my CPU is running at 55-57 and is setting off alarms - anyone else notice this?

57C shouldnt set off alarms. Youre safe (but its definitely not preferred) until you pass the 90C (194F) mark. 57 is reasonable for a CPU to be at with a stock fan, why youre getting alarms however, is a good question.

Anyhow, dont be alarmed yourself.

From what I've read they are rated to 100c and can run their entire lifespan at that temperature without detriment.

I wouldnt say that at all. Running hot for their entire lifespan is going to have an effect. Anything past 80C warrants the purchase of a new heatsink/fan. But as you said, it will survive up to 100C.

As I already said, youre fine as it stands.

The spike, though not dangerous, is likely from a clogged server, meaning it needs a reset.

I'm no expert, that's just a guess. Try playing on servers that reset every few hours.

No one runs your exact setup, so temps are pretty irrelevant. ArmA II is extremely CPU intensive, however, so that's completely normal.

55-57° really isn't anything to worry about while gaming with stock cooling, but if you're worried an aftermarket heatsink/fan combo may be a good investment.
