Real Houses That Can Be Defended

Recommended Posts

As of now DayZ has most of the components of a real zombie apocalypse. There is a need for food, water, weapons, but there is no "shelter". Yes there are tents and houses one can go in, but there is no way to really protect oneself in a building or tent. I understand that there is a rumor going around that a new map for DayZ will come out at some point which will have larger cities and more cities. I'm not sure if this is true but I do believe that having cities is a good idea, with one important factor. The cities need to have actual "sky scrapers" or at least buildings with more than one floor which is enterable. I say this because then the game is not so much running in forests for hours as it is sneaking through buildings and killing zombies and enemy players. Having buildings like this also allows for safety in places other than a remote woods.

One idea I have is simply to add "locks" for doors so that one could lock off all the entrances to a part of a building and keep themselves safe. Only the player who placed the lock could open the door. To stop people from just blocking every single doorway (similarly to what occurs with barbed wire) I have two ideas of how to combat it. One, is simple to not allow some doors to be locked. Have main doors to large buildings not be able to be locked but separate floors and adjacent rooms as well as small buildings would be lockable. The second idea is to make the locks disappear when the player dies and also to only stay on one server. Also players could find planks of wood to board up windows in their home or to span gaps to make walkways inside or between buildings. All of this would give the ability to create a compound or home for oneself or a group. I think that this will interest more players and give them something else to work for other than getting guns and a possible car. I believe that this would make the game a lot more fun and feel more realistic, because as I said before, there is no real shelter yet in DayZ, but I think this would be a good way to create it.

I like the idea of being able to lock doors. But as I recall very few locks/doors would stand up to a good shot gun blast or axe. I'm hoping that in the stand alone there will be a way to make places that are more secure, not just a tent city that can be raided in the 20+ hours a day that you are not on line.

I really like the ideas. Not to crazy about the door locking though. Sure its not bad, but itd be asking for complications with people locking doors, logging of and maybe not relogging for weeks at a time. So I'd have to say no on anything like that. Now maybe if you could find a bobby pin and pick lock a locked door? Or break it open with a few rounds from a weapon? That might change it up a bit! But some great ideas! Have my beans! :beans:

I also think construction would be a cool factor as if like being able to build wooden walls around a fort and to add a gate that can be opened and closed by a lever or something. i think on the locks idea also that they should have industrial lock upgrades that can be found to make it so u cant use a gun to blow the lock off. I like the idea keep thinking!

i approve of most of this, but with locking, there should be a lock-picking tool (to counter trolls or, like Phuket said, a player that locked himself in and endded up not playing for a good amount of time, keeping some loot from other players) or a way to kick the doors down (though i think it may be loud, like say using a shotgun or the classic kick to break down the door may attract a horde, so will using a tool such as the crowbar or knife to break the lock or unhinge the door)

with the shelter, there should be a benefit to staying in one place instead of moving on to the next town (such as after a while, finding a secret door that reveals more supplies, such as extra food, or a powerful weapon or rare clothing (survivor waring a tuxedo or dress found in the wine cellar, anyone?, or even a excuse to make the ho-so-cool original bandit skin wearable without head wrapping, so that we can still tell if they are a bandit, but they don't have to kill to get such a cool outfit with a creepy head-wrap that screams bandit))

that is all i have to say here, have one of mah beanz
