One mega server for all persistant items ?

Recommended Posts

Will there be concept of one master server with say 1 million spawned loot objects that never dissapear - only travel from one player to another or slowly rot and break ?

Say dead bodies will also rot and eventually "disappear" or better be realistically consumed clean by zombies, yet objects like cars, weapons, loot will never disappear but can only be destroyed - spawned objects will persistently stay on all servers that connect to main master server in real time.

This creates dilemma - what happens on ServerA where I took the car from Cherno's garage if player on ServerB saw it 5 minutes ago before I took it ? Will PlayerA lives in parallel universe or their path will cross somehow ?

Is it possible to brainstorm this idea together, if it's worth creating? or there's any benefits in this ?

I got totally lost in your post, but you're topic title brings up a good idea. We're currently going to one mega database for all our persistence character data. Whats to say we can't pull half that data, being tents/vehicles/future persistant objects, from another?

I'm not a technical guy, but it sounds like this would either speed things up, or slow them down.

Rocket talked about this specifically.

He created a test server that spawned in every place-able item from every other server and even just by himself it was unplayable.

Maybe in another 10 years with stronger hardware or faster internet, but with today's technical limitations.

I'll dig up his post if I can find it

Edit: FOUND IT!

That's actually good idea - perhaps there could be some kind of server clustering/load balancing where say 4 servers each share 25% of persistent data between all hosting servers ? So that would mean 4 master servers, right ? I'm sure there will be performance gain in this case.
