cookieeater 4 Posted May 29, 2012 One problem with DayZ is that friends have to meet up at a location with each other after spawning randomly on the coast. This can take a long time to do so and it sucks when you die attempting to regroup with your friends. Players need a way to spawn with their friends in a fast manner. Bandit Hunter 29 Posted May 29, 2012 One mans problem is another mans feature. This has been suggested a hundred times, and i've voted no each time. They don't NEED a way to spawn together in a fast manner. I've never happened to wash up on the beach with my best friend in real life (assuming thats how we got here in the first place..) bellicosity 0 Posted May 29, 2012 You are no more than a 30 minute run from each other no matter where you spawn. Also death is the only real hard consequence in this game, shouldn't make it any easier.
Badnik 0 Posted May 29, 2012 I myself would enjoy some sort of friend spawn, but please hear me out before you dismiss it.I'd be OK with non friend spawning as it is, except, you're not just factoring in the time it takes to meet up with a friend. (Which can be anywhere from five minutes, to an hour or two, depending on luck.) And that's not even including getting capped along the way by a bandit. Having to disconnect, then reconnect to respawn, to try make that run again. Then there is also the server waiting times. Not the "Waiting for connection from server." waiting times, but the "OK lets try find a server big enough for me and my IRL friends to join." "Found one" "Me too" "I'm in." "I'm in" "Jeez guys, the server is full, can we find another one?" "OK disconnecting from server" "Oh hey, I'm connecting now." "... I just disconnected" rinse and repeat mumbo jumbo. Then there are the servers getting reset infrequently, which leads to the problem stated above.I understand it's a survival game and supposed to be hard and realistic. but it's still a game, yes you wouldn't be spawning near your mates in real life. But realistically, you also wouldn't be respawning at all when you died IRL. I can understand using the random spawns to control teamed players hogging loot by respawning near the location where they died. but that's punishing the majority to stop a minority.Meet us half way: When you die, give the option for "New Respawn" (respawns you as it does now)or "Friend Respawn" Just make them respawn in a 5 to 10 km (Roughly a 5 to 10 minute direct run from your selected "Friend", that is assuming you can navigate via the landscape, if you can't then good luck you're in the same boat as before) radius in a random direction around that area. They still have to work their way back to their selected friend with no loot. It just cuts down on the mindless running that needs to be done in order to actually play DayZ with a friend. The following example and similar events happened to my team:Spending hours in a squad of three friends having finally made it to the north east airstrip from cherno (Our meeting area, we didn't spawn together, This was 4 to five hours of lots of group fun.) only to have a sniper shoot one friend insta dead, no warning. Then having the dead friend respawn on the south west side of kamenka. With the option to either: spend an hour or two running there through the mountains, or try their luck at another respawn location by suiciding over and over again (not ideal.)See it's all cool for me and the other friend who didn't get killed, we've had more experience with the game. But the friend that was killed, he was just starting out. So there was little chance he'd make it back to us by himself without dying. Which makes the game alot less fun for him. I know there is a learning curve to this game. but some players just want to have fun with their friends. While others just want to watch the world burn. montauk 2 Posted May 29, 2012 Sorry, but people don't usually wash up on the beach with their friends.
Reaper (DayZ) 2 Posted May 29, 2012 I think this idea has it's pros & cons. For pros, you obviously have the enhanced gameplay for team based players & the ability to regroup quicker and get back to adventuring, however on the con side, you have the potential for abuse of this system. Couple of bad dudes get killed, they respawn together and travel along the coast picking off & outnumbering the lone wolf survivors 2-3:1, sure at first it'd be a rare occurrence but once people realized the fun in hunting a player when you outnumber them they'd start doing it too and it could quickly get out of hand.Meeting halfway I guess would be okay but I think it should be further addressed by halfing what you spawn with. AKA if 2 people spawn together, they spawn with 1 weapon, 2 food, 2 water bottles, and have to work together to find weaponry etc. This reduces the above point of people teaming up to cause havoc on the coast. LeYuno (DayZ) 51 Posted May 29, 2012 The fact that you can't spawn together is another aspect of the realism in this game. Making it so that you can spawn on friends would take away a huge part of the excitement trying to find your way to their location, surviving on your own, gathering stuff, and linking up. I can tell you, I've had to do this a couple of times and it was a thrill just to be able to find them without a map or compass.

Lord Turner 3 Posted July 2, 2012 No we should not be able to 'spawn" together without serious work towards such a goal, a command center "radio" requiring a lot of parts and work to operate perhaps allowing control of a town or some such. But really... there should just be spawn sites in various city's or areas to make it easier for people not to spawn in "Death traps" or spawn closer to allies and drops. haveing to run all the way from electro or cherno
vision1776 42 Posted July 2, 2012 I dont see a problem with this suggestion other than it being almost impossible to program. How on earth would they know who is friends with who? I suggested the following idea already:Let players choose where to spawn on the map just like on domination.
Nasty Wet Smear 4 Posted July 2, 2012 I'd like the opposite... Some fashion in which friends can't agree outside the game to meet up. ;) It adds that fear factor, that desperation, that lonley, isolated, lost feeling... And makes actually finding your friends/friendly players an amazing experince. I know it can't be done, but, hey, a man can dream.
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted July 2, 2012 Using map, compass, and communication to find each other is a huge part of the challenge and intensity of DayZ. Also, deciding whether you're going to go meet up with your friend who just spawned on the coast or wait for him to come to you is part of the social dynamic of the game. What's more important to you, staying away from the coast and surviving, or meeting your friend and helping him/her get started? This suggestion takes out a big part of the game. The furthest you can reasonably be from anyone in this game is 21km. If you both run at each other, that's only 35 minutes. No big deal.
