super pretendo 2 Posted May 29, 2012 ...what's going on here? This is hated by the overwhelming majority of players, and makes cool things like having a helicopter 100% useless in terms of scouting things. This needs to be reverted to the 1500 it was before, or at least 1000.
therussiandong@hotmail.com 5 Posted May 29, 2012 Yes... please :(The low view distance drives me absolutely insane.I know it helps the servers and people with lower-end PCs but 500 is just ridiculous.I'd like AT LEAST 1000.
wutno 1 Posted May 29, 2012 The player should have the choice of view distance.
WalkerDown (DayZ) 296 Posted May 29, 2012 Nope, it would reward (too much) who has a hi-spec PC. I do have one, so i would be happy, but there wouldn't be much fun playing against disadvantaged ppl.
amentes 0 Posted May 29, 2012 WalkerDown, I can see where you're coming from with that, but can't people with lower end PCs just tune down their Detail settings? Resolution is important for seeing things, but Detail isn't, really.Honestly, if you wanna cheat, just turn down Terrain Detail. Removes all grass/shrubbery, making prone-sniping TROLOLOL if the other players have it to Very High :PAnd even then, this is ArmA, a game notoriously power-hungry. If people wanna sign up for it with sub-par specs, that's their own business, isn't it? Especially when turning down some settings can actually make the game easier. salty (DayZ) 39 Posted May 29, 2012 I'm all for a cap, but it should be at least 1000m.I am, however, against removing fog and weather effects that cause the same issue.
WalkerDown (DayZ) 296 Posted May 29, 2012 Gfx settings should rely (much) on the game mechanics. It's not a matter of PC performance but of players attitude. I've seen ppl playing with super-uber PC's, capable of running the games maxed out, but running games almost wireframe to have an advantage. So no, the game must looks the same (when we talk about view distance, fov, dof, etc.) with any reasonable spec, whenever it's possible. You still have an advantage of running it with higher FPS's (or/notrelated with a better ping), but they can't do miracles.
mofokk 6 Posted May 29, 2012 so it was capped at 500....... explains why it looks shite then. please revert.

BlackVoid (DayZ) 0 Posted May 29, 2012 It's sad that people with a good computer gets punished for it.
fsgt tyrsted[3/1] 0 Posted May 29, 2012 The view distance is capped by the server, and the server owners can crank it up. at standard its been set to: viewDistance=1600;.
sgtdorian 2 Posted May 29, 2012 I think It's capped at 1000m, which in ArmA it means you won't see more than 700m+- away.Anyways I agree with you guys, I'd put it at 1500-2000m minimum.
Officious (DayZ) 4 Posted May 29, 2012 They don't get punished; it's a game balancing characteristic. Additionally if people with crap PCs are trying to play and their systems are slow. It will slow down the server for everyone.I think 750-1000 is optimal, anymore is just too much. I don't enjoy being sniped or having people take pot shots at me, and realistically no one is going to snipe at the end of the world from more than 500m away. It would be a waste of ammo. Only actual packet loss will result in any sort of noticeable deterioration of performance - and in the shape of "warping" of the aforementioned lagger. super pretendo 2 Posted June 10, 2012 bump. Players should be able to scout out places like helicopter crash sites and vehichles from afar. Can we get an ETA on this being fixed?
