Voice comms are supported in-game, right?

Recommended Posts

I notice some servers mention using Teamspeak, but isn't voice communication just supported "out of the box" by hooking up a mike and hitting the caps lock key when you want to talk?

It is supported, you can check it out in the controls menu after hitting ESC. I'm not sure if direct communication is still working, I've had it work sometimes and other times people have said it hasn't. Otherwise, global communication etc. is supported but frowned upon using since it disrupts all players.

Hopefully youre not trolling.

Doing that will have the whole server yelling at you as it will go out over the global channel.

Unbind that caps lock.

I bound a key to use the direct communication channel, but it mostly doesn't work

Ending a patch to the Arma II base game.

So the beta patch to Arma II that I see on some servers--that's the one that allows direct comms?

As people have already said, Caps Lock tends to send your voice out globally and annoy a lot of people.

The beta patch will fix direct comms (which transmits mostly in the direction you're facing, like actually talking in real life), but is only effective on beta-patch enabled servers. Direct comms is somewhat buggy outside of beta servers, right now :(

People tend to prefer Teamspeak as it allows you to chat with the group you're playing with (if you've joined some friends), and it avoids the problems of direct comms, where other players have trouble hearing you if they're too far away (for example, if you're checking separate parts of a building).

Hey, ARMA II has only been out what, two years? Can't expect them to have it working properly already :).
