To some Dayz Players:

Recommended Posts

So i've been playing arma 2 a long while now, and Dayz since i first heard it in my mission group a while back.

I've been throught the highs and the lows, and what rocket and the dev team created here is probably one of the greatest idea's i have EVER seen for a game. its a type of game i wished for, for a long time (being a HUGE zombie fan) and didnt think i would ever see it. some of you however, do not REALIZE that this is not a zombie shoot'em'up, this is a zombie SURVIVAL game you cant cry everytime you get player-killed. I've seen so many "im tired of bandit's" threads that its getting ridiculous, especially when they explain how they were shot up: "man i was just walking along the road and some dickhead shot at me! this is a game for shooting zombies and surviving! Im DONE" . that is almost word for word, a post i saw on the bandit campfire thread, and this upsets me because people want rocket to dumb down the game so its "easier" for them. I NEVER thought i would say this (and im being a hypocrit by doing so) but GO BACK TO COD. What makes this game so amazing is the player interactions and the tense moments of "is he lying? is he a bandit? should i let him walk by? should i shoot him and be safe?". i ask myself those questions everytime i see another player, and thats what makes this game fun: SURVIVING

If you ever read "the walking dead" Comic series (not the show, its WAY different) and put some serious thought into it, in the comic book the zombies were only a big deal at first, and as the book went on it became clear that the people were FAR more dangerous than the zombies (volume seven for you readers out there, hurts me man...it hurts). My experience was very similar to that, at first i was so afraid of aggroing zombies i never wanted to hit up any towns, but as i got used to the game and learned a few tricks or two i could lose the zombies if i aggroed them and could get in and out of town a lot quicker and safer, and it was like this until i got used to the zombies being there, and learned to manipulate thier patterns and habits.

Then i met my first other survivor

I met him after a zombie had broken my legs, i was crawling towards Elektro from the north as i knew there was a hospital there. he walked right past me and i had the jump on him, but being a naive Dayz player at the time, instead of shooting him with my AKM i direct chatted for help to see if he had morphine. he replied and said he did, so i told him where the bush i was hiding in was so he could come help.

1st mistake, letting him know i was in a weakened state by asking for morphine.

2nd mistake, telling him my position.

I went from having the jump on him, to being screwed. he came over and placed it on the floor, and while i was distracted by the gear screen and morphining myself up, he took the double barrel from my backpack, loaded it and shot me in the head.

not even mad, i was impressed, since then however, i wouldn't even think twice to shoot someone who pointed a gun at me, threatened me or had something i really needed to SURVIVE. its the game and thats how you play.

DONT RUIN THIS EXPERIENCE FOR ME, its one of the greatest things in existence right now and a lot of you guys want to ruin it with "non-pvp" servers. what the fuck is the point of that...YAY I GOT GEARED UP! now what..killing ZEDS is great in all, but ....

anyways sorry for the rant.

No need to apologize, mate. You've successfully written the first 'I got shot'-post in a long time (if not ever) that didn't make me lose a bit of faith in the evolution of mankind.

But nonetheless, don't you lose your hope in humanity completely, there's still some good guys out there. :D

Anyways, enjoy the beans.

:edit: Wanted to add that I agree with your 1st paragraph 101% (except that I've never been much of a Z-fan and this is pretty much the first 'thing' I've played with Zombies in it)

Peace.

SD.

I agree this is the way the game should stay and cool way to die so far when im killed by another player its from a distant point and my guy just falls over :)

We could do without the lag and glitches however...

Meh, I prefer to have a little grey area when I meet people. I'd say it's about 100% kill on sight once you're geared, but it didn't use to be.

When I get geared, my end game is to go to the coast, hit up cities and villages and look for new spawns. For a while there, when DayZ was really booming, I could meet people and give them some guns and medicine and have them help me raid a supermarket, hospital or fire house before we parted ways. That was a lot of fun. Sure, some would go at me with their Makarov or Enfield, but the risk brought excitement. Now, even the newest spawns are just jaded old DayZ players doing their routine hospital/ALICE pack run before hitting their tent cities to get guns and ammo. I give them an AKM and they shoot me every time to take... what? My Enfield/WInchester/AKu? Well, they win and I respawn and head into town. A lot of the time, if they didn't hide my body, I can rearm 100% because they didn't bother taking so much as a Pepsi off me, they're just farming that low humanity score.

It's totally obnoxious, and it's been over a week, maybe ten hours of DayZ, since I had a positive interaction with a survivor who wasn't a buddy of mine outside the game. Are they all trying for bandit hats? Are they all terrified of me? Just today, I was outside the Elektro supermarket and I saw a guy go in there. I broadcast, "Hey, man, I see you in there, but I'm just gonna go around. Don't worry about me, I'm headed out of town." Then I went down the street and about a hundred meters later he was spraying AK fire at me.

The game's a straight-up deathmatch now, and not even goodwill and commitment to pacifism can fix it. I guess I'll just start playing like they do, only trusting out-of-game allies and treating the entire DayZ community as hostile. Infuriating.

People are a lot less likely to kill you on sight than I had previously thought as long as you talk to him. If you're someone who complains about people killing you and you don't use a mic....please stop complaining.

People are stupid and ignorant, just like OP pointed out. It is not difficult to find players who want to team up and be friendly. Of course you will find people who shoot on sight, and this is coming from a bandit. I've been going around newbie cities for the past couple weeks with medium tier gear (on purpose), and have been helping newbies. Most of them do not shoot you if you use a mic. Not using a mic makes you feel inhumane, and not friendly. Having human emotions within your voice can easily make a cautious player turn friendly. And a shoot on sight ex friendly, friendly still.

But you need to watch out for players with top gear, I've visited Elektro Hill and almost all the players up there will shoot at you and/or disconnect. However I have met friendlies up there. Maybe those that got shot and are returning to their bodies, or those that are genuinely friendly. But Elektro Hill is by far just as unfriendly as NWAF easily.

In conclusion, it's up to you to make yourself seem more human like. The biggest way to make an impression is with a mic, as with typing you will get shot by the time you finish your sentence. As always, there will be people who shoot on sight, but it is not as bad as most people make it out to seem.

Sorry, but how does someones playing style make them 'stupid and ignorant'? How about not taking the game so seriously, and get over your (zealous) self. The game wasn't made to satisfy your expectations, and people can play it however they want, if it's fun for them. Whether that's survival, deathmatch, or cross-country pickup truck rallies, why should anyone have the right to impose their will on how people play or talk about their experiences in a video-game?
