Oddzball 70 Posted August 16, 2012 So Rocket finally ok'd private hives.http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/y4x6i/iama_rocket_potential_questions/c5sdjs4I think for the mod we open it up and see how it works. If people want to run private hives they can, but ideally we need a way to pool at least some statistics collectively. This is a win for the community IMO. resin_ 97 Posted August 16, 2012 While I'm not against it, I forsee this making things confusing in the future.
icomrade 201 Posted August 16, 2012 As long as private servers advertise that they run a private hive this shouldn't be a problem.
jovial 17 Posted August 16, 2012 No confusion. They are working on the standalone, that's all that matters. Later on, this mod will be left in the community hands, but noone will really give a fuck one way or the other, about balance, private hives or whatever, because most of us will be playing the standalone. red_orchestra@msn.com 112 Posted August 16, 2012 While I'm not against it, I forsee this making things confusing in the future.Yeah, they'll probably be an increase of "my character didn't save and i spawned at kamenka again" kind of posts
santiagoaquino6@hotmail.com 37 Posted August 16, 2012 Statistics? "The hive servers are so fucking shitty people are disconnecting their servers from the hive"How's that for statistics.
Oddzball 70 Posted August 16, 2012 Yeah, they'll probably be an increase of "my character didn't save and i spawned at kamenka again" kind of postsIt would be so easy to link all these private hives though.Frankly I like 1 hive per sever, it prevents a lot of exploits such as ghosting and duping. Xenturion 0 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) Just want to bring this up..Rock, Paper Shotgun caught up with Arma II modder Dean Hall at this week's Gamescom. The braaaaains behind the zombie-centric DayZ mod revealed that player-driven construction is in the works for the mod's eventual stand-alone client.Hall says that the feature will probably take the form of underground bases accessed via portals (think a grate in the ground). He's leaning toward having players dig out the space, pour concrete, set up hydroponics, and possibly even have the structure collapse around them if it's a particularly gruesome day.DayZ's stand-alone client will also feature a revamped Chernarus that features more buildings you can actually enter as well as more detail and "entirely new areas."See here http://massively.joy...anced-building/ Edited August 16, 2012 by Xenturion
jackcrow 129 Posted August 16, 2012 Why does a private server have a HIVE?A HIVE would imply multiple servers connected to it, like a Bee's Hive or Wasp Hive. A single server would not have a HIVE, it would be a private server and nothing more. Or are you guys talking about an actual private HIVE of a few selected servers?I think you guys are confusing the HIVE with the back end database.

The only difference is when you look in the database you will see stuff across the different instances. So technically yes, even if you are only running one map, on one server, you still run a "hive" Edited August 16, 2012 by Oddzball
