How do you use direct voice chat?

I unbound the global chat in options. Which is the direct chat to only talk to those who are near me?

1. you have to use the beta patch for ARMA II. Yes, thats right a mod thats heavily dependent on direct chat and you have to go through additional steps to use it and heaven forbid you use global/side channel for VON.

2. Use the , and . keys to switch between channels until it says 'direct channel' then just use capslock to VON. Double tap it to toggle it on/off

yup very few servers surport the beta patch, hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Is direct chat working with the newest beta patch tho? Me and a few buddies are playing together on beta patch servers and we cant see eachothers text when we type in direct chat.

Yes it works with the newest beta patch. Note that the text distance on direct communication channel is limited to only 20m' date=' while voice can be heard as far as 80m. I'm hoping that the ArmA 2 developers would increase the distance to 80m and make it fade over distance like voice is.

Turns out I didn't need direct chat, I'm getting 4 fps on my insane laptop so that is the least of my problems. I'm super bummed, told my nephew how cool this game sounds and we log on and it's unplayable :(

You can also bind a specific key to enable direct voice chat regardless of what channel you're set at.
