Moon phase?

Since I'm a bit nightowl and I don't mind running around in darkness, but last couple of nights I had a bit tough time. Seems that most of the servers are pitch black (and I haven't found a NVG yet) and most of the time I haven't seen the moon. This made me wonder if the moon phasing is implemented and if it is tied in real time?

Or have just been in at the wrong time and moon haven't raised yet?

Moon phases are implemented in Arma2, in DayZ they're tied to server time so sometimes they're same as in reality, most of the time admins set their server time halfassedly so moon can be anywhere. Some servers even change their time multiple times per day.

Just keep looking for a server that has moonlight, you will find one and like others have said it depends on the time.

I can play on full nighttime servers, I just need to have flares and chemlights otherwise its very hard to see let alone navigate.

it's supposed to be a proper official lunar cycle in real time. Many servers don't follow this because the admins don't know what they're doing or are afraid of the dark

You can increase your brightness and gamma to 2.0 which will make it look like black and white thermo (think ac-130 level on CoD) or get dayz commander and play on day servers?

These guys are right. The moon phase is set to the phase for the current date, however it's the phase for the Northern Hemisphere. if you have a google calendar, pick the moon phases calendar as well - you'll know ahead of time when you can expect bright nights, and when you can expect to have to lurk around...with company.
