If you're not a dumbass then zombies aren't even a challenge in this game. There are many ways to deal with them without having to shoot or use a hatchet.

Minus the insulting dumbass comment, I agree there are ways to deal with zombies and it's preferable to avoid, for one simple reason : Don't give away your position unless absolutely necessary.

However, there are times when you just throw caution to the wind and want to have a bit of Zombie killin fun! So please, don't be so bloody serious!

OT: Good little guide. Took me a while to figure out how to equip the Hatchet as an actual weapon, although when you have, it becomes all too easy to forsake guns and run around on an axe-spree. Not that I've done that. Honest.

I can be a serious player, but I do like throwing caution to the wind too. I was just saying that if you use common sense then the zombies in this game are easy to avoid.

To Wield the Axe

1. Open Inventory and right click hatchet

2. Click "Remove from Toolbar"

3. You may have to press R to reload (yeah, srsly) before you can use the hatchet

Yup, you can easily distract zombies and make a pack of deadly looking followers all confused quite swift.

Occasionally that's far more enjoyable than plain lead loading them.
