Adding the element of "Escape" (Zombie movement, adrenaline, Line of Sight)

Recommended Posts

NOTE: This is not meant to make the game "easier" i just think it would be nice to add some way to escape without demanding you have bullets.

Since last time i checked guns were super rare in zombie/apocalypse settings and that most of the time you had to "RUN" and "HIDE" and with this sneak system and gun rarity i would assume the developers think the same way.

NOTE:This suggestion deals with line of sight and zombie movement.

Ive been playing for quite awhile now and i have noticed some things. One thing i noticed about this "survival" mod is that you can't really "survive" unless you have some kind of ammo for some kind of weapon. Yes yes i know you can "sneak" past the zombies and what not but if you get just one zombie on you and you have no ammo...your done for, which is just lame.

--=My suggestion is this.==--

Would it be too much to ask for zombies to run at the same speed or some what slower so that prolonged running will eventually lead to a distance gain by the survivor? Also to have the zombies follow a line of sight rule once they spot a survivor. Right now they seem to be omniscient (i.e i had about 3 crawlers and 2 hoppers on me i ran from one town to another, a 5 minute run, while stopping and checking some things for a few minutes i see them coming over the mountain still chasing me...)

----HOW IT WOULD WORK------

==Line of Sight==

If your in an open field and there is not tall mountain or hill ya you will be kind of screwed. BUT if there are hills and buildings you have a chance to ditch some or all the zombies chasing you. if you can run around a multiple structures where you and the zombies lose sight of each other than you have possibly escaped. they will stop "chasing" you but they will now patrol that new area they are in looking for their lost prey.

For those who might think "So i can just run in a buildings and ill have lost them TOO EASY" and you would be...WRONG they would not be that stupid all the zombies that saw you enter the building would then enter that building looking for you...also if your in a hanger or large building where you can't really break line of sight than they will still come straight for you this tactic would only work in buildings like the apartment buildings in cherno where you have multiple floors and a lot of walls. to break LOS, and like i said breaking LOS in a building is really just buying you time since they will find you eventually.

This could lead to new tactics A) if you are being chased by zombies and a person you can run and hide and if you succeed you have just created a group of zombies around your position that should effectively drive off the person hunting you but of course it is a double edged sword if the zombies find you hiding before the other person gives up you will have lost. B) you could lead zombies into buildings and if they have a "backdoor" you could sneak out that back door and effectively escape the horde you brought in the building with you. This brings me to zombie movement INSIDE buildings right now they walk in buildings which is good, that is how they would "patrol" the area when losing their target but if they spot you and your right next to them they would do a quick sprint at you (around 3 feet they would lunge at you) so you either run around the building, get vertical if possible or just get the F out of there. Or just shoot them in the building while keeping your distance.

==Zombie movement==

I would like to see some kind of change in zombie movement it seems so clunky how they run at insane speeds than pause; which is about the only time to shoot them. I would like a more fluid zombie movement that allows for constant panic. I just wish for a more fluid running zombie.

Example-The running zombies would move at a very slightly reduced speed so you could eventually gain distance and escape/turn and kill

OR the zombies would run at the same speed as you and to gain distance (to either shoot them or escape) you would have an adrenaline rush, the adrenaline rush would be initiated by hitting your "sprint" button BTW but instead of how sprinting is now, where you can only do it if rested, you would be able to sprint whenever but you would get hungry and/or thirsty 2x's as quick, also a new icon would appear indicating when your in an adrenaline rush, (it would work slightly different from sprinting, instead of having to HOLD your sprint button you would just hit the sprint button to turn adrenaline ON and hit it again or stop and rest for it to turn off.

The line of sight idea is needed for sure.

Though I remember reading a fictional book where the zombies DO NOT stop hunting their prey once they hear or see them.

Finally some sensible suggestions, which AFAIK, haven't been entirely covered. Zed speed is a common complaint, and I kinda of sympathise with it. However I do enjoy the 28 days later feel it has, just the bloody AI paths are literally all-over the place.

Line of sight, however, I agree. However, if it's possible begs to be answered.

I am just stating how i think zombies should work in this game. When its an interactive experience there should always be multiple ways of dealing with things' date=' right now its either sneak, shoot, or die. I am merely suggesting another element be added so as to add more depth.

I also like fast zombies i just think they way they are now can be improved upon like i said they would still run at you. Also ditto on the IF about line of sight i was speaking to some people who played ARMA for a long time and they said its just how the AI is when i mentioned how omnipresent they are. But im hopeful.
