First Successful Day and Tips for New Players

I am happy to say I think I finally figured out how to be successful in this game. By successful, I mean being able to live for hours or even days. Below are a few tips on how I went from helpless victim of bandits to lone ranger.

1) Consumables

It took me quite awhile to figure out that food = blood. Three vital items you should seek out before exploring the vast world are matches, wood, and a hunting knife. If you are ever low on blood, you can then search fields for animals and cook the meat you find.

As far as keeping hydrated goes, cans of soda are quite common and drinking does not restore blood, thus food should be in the back of your mind at all times. If you want to explore further inland find a canteen first. Many of the small towns scattered throughout the world will have a water pump which can be utilized to refill your canteen as needed.

2) Low vs High Population Server

One of the biggest mistake I made when beginning was to hop on highly populated servers. This will result in lots of encounters with other players who are not always so nice. My advice is to avoid the high population servers until you have some basic survival equipment and a gun.

3) Guns & Ammo

Depending on your location in the world, you will either want to seek out residential, farms, or military. Do not worry too much about infiltrating industrial buildings before you have a gun. Acquiring a gun should be one of your first tasks. Be ready to encounter other players if you go for high value locations.

I also found deer stands to be extremely rewarding with high firepower weapons and ammo.
