Please Host activate SideChannel

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I played DayZ for 10 weeks now, and i mentioned that the majority of the server havent got any sidechat.

I pretty much like the Sidechannel because its funny to meet up with completely new people. On the other side its quite useful if you are a bandit and try to catch the survivors. I think this makes the game more interesting and funny.

I also dont know why everyones saying that SC is annoying because if there is a survivor using the VoiceSidechat and you dont like it then mute him!!!

I just want to get more opinions, so pls comment and discuss

Thx

Aces!

I think side channel needs to be activated so that people can give out an early warning of a hacker.

Managed to play just under 24 hours before getting insta killed along with everyone else on the server and before that I got killed by two "hackers" that were teleporting on top of people, So I was watching someone crawling towards them with my rifle thinking... this guy has been firing shots off like nobodies business I'm bound to be a target to him. Crawling crawling, name tags are on so I know who he is... he briefly looks at me *ARRGGGHHH Leg breaks, Still 12,000 blood and I'm dead...* Within a few seconds I see that the one I was looking at also died soon after along with 3...4...6 and a hole list starts scrolling.

My first reaction was to attempt to tell everyone to log off because they're going to get massacred but due to "immersion" side channel is turned off. I think in this current state it really needs to be turned back on... having a mod in alpha or not filled with hackers is immersion breaking enough that any changes due to "realism" or "immersion" are somewhat irrelevant.

Guys, forget side chat. Get with the flow of modern gaming.

Just get on the server's mumble/ventrilo/teamspeakchannel, and set a key to whisper to one of the admins. You don't need to tell other players there's a hacker. Only the admin.

Not every server has a teamspeak channel, mostly the sqauds are closed, so they have a password. Its just an opportunity to make this game more interesting !

I agree to an extent. In the scope of the future full game I think side-channel only creates problems, which is a thought obviously shared by Rocket and his dev team as is why it's disabled. But as mentioned in the previous post, the current state of the mod needs more tools to deal with hackers. I firmly believe side-chat, respawn buttons, and third-party prevention tools are almost a necessity to enjoy the entirety of the mod at this point. Up until about 5 days ago I had never had serious issues with hackers. But now that my 3 main servers have at least 1 a day, it's hard to find places to hide... ya dig? How am I supposed to contribute anything useful on this board in the way of development when all I want to do is bitch about hackers like the majority of the people on here. Full server rights for admins could potentially do away with any of those small fixes I just mentioned, but something tells me that's not going to happen unless it's private hive.

So I scroll through DayZ commander, I'm going to play with a friend... everyone on that server should realistically log onto Teamspeak initially doing a google search to see if Country X, XYZ is associated with any clans or even has a website/teamspeak associated with it... bullshit but then.. hoping an admin is online so that the moment a hacker comes on the admin can drop all his stuff so that he can solve it... with 2.5 what can admins do other than turn off their server? Admins are mostly powerless due to all the "Do not, Do not and Do not" rules, some are reasonable but when an admin can barely even read the logs to discover who is hacking then it gets a bit fucking ridiculous.

Like I said this is the 2nd time in 24 hours I've been killed by a hacker and I was only playing for about 30 minutes on both time, I would of had the ability to call a warning shout out to other players if I could use side chat but what happened was the entire server got insta killed. That is 39 people who lost a few hours of work illegitimately, perhaps it could of been prevented by allowing people to globally scream "Log off, hacker".

However to highlight your post

Get with the flow of modern gaming.

The flow would be to have an anti cheat system that worked...

Personallly I prefer servers without SideChat.

It's not that I don't want to meet other survivors, but the fact that you can't just talk with eachother just makes the game more thrilling.

Even Rocket said that without SideChat the great phrase "Anyone in Cherno?" would never exist, but now that it's gone it became a harder yet (IMHO) better game.

However, like I already said multiple times at this forum, we do need an alternative method for long distance communication like radios. This will improve teamwork without the useless chatter of strangers (which anoyed me the most).

I don't think side-chat is an answer, long-term, but I'd love to see radios with several frequencies that could be dialed in. I just posted this on a KoS thread, but it fits here, so I'll quote:

I was playing yesterday on a non-official server with side-chat (ie. global text chat) on. It was one of the my coolest DayZ experiences ever.

Over side-chat, people were talking joking, making the experience a lot less lonely from the start. Mind you, players there seemed reasonably mature. When a guy spotted me, he spoke through sidechat, we joined together to look for loot, and then another guy, who had a chopper, offered to give as a ride. Overall, great friendly atmosphere in the server.

As the chopper tried to land north of elektro, he typed out: "Get to the choppa!!!". As me and my new friend rushed to get in in the middle of an open field, we began to hear shots. I managed to get into the MG seat of the chopper, and when I looked around, the guy who was with me was hit by a sniper round and died. "F**K! go up go up we're being shot at", I said to the pilot, and as he began the liftoff, he too, was shot and killed. The chopper fell back down, I tried to access the pilot seat, and for whatever reason, I was unable to. So I tried to run away zigzagging through the open field, but was 1-shotted by the same sniper.

So, yea, I think the one thing that will definitely help with KoS will be communication. Not necessarily open side chat on global servers, but radios and cellphones. We could only get this awesome scenario to happen because 1) we communicated to set up the heli pickup and 2) other guys saw us typing and planned an ambush.

Fortunately, my pilot friend respawned and managed to get the chopper back, I too respawned and after being killed by the same sniper again, finally managed to get a motorcycle and some basic gear, and spent the next four hours cruising through chernarus.

The flow would be to have an anti cheat system that worked...

Define 'works' - AFIK the only anti-cheat that is immune to leading-edge hacks is the proprietary engine used by CCP, for EVE-Online. Now, that would be nice to have, but you see, ArmA II works differently to EVE, and so it is unsuitable to employ in this environment.

In saying that, you are lucky to have any protection at all.

But moving onto your point regading teamspeak and voice servers: Find one.

Visit the forums or webpage associated with the server. Search for details, and failing that post a request for one. Failing that - email the webmaster. Sure you might not get a response. If that's the case, the team responsible for your chosen server are blithering idiots, and don't need your custom. Go play elsewhere.

Rather than playing on ISP-hosted servers, look for the unique servers. Contact their admins, find out if they are readily available to respond to hack reports, and how best to report them for that server's admin team to address them.

Mate, all in all you sound a bit butthurt by this, and I can understand that. But you have to be pro-active in addressing these shortcomings. You have to have the initiative to seek what you need. No-one owes you these things. Yes they are relevant to your gaming enjoyment, but if you prance about with a prima donna attitude on the internet, you won't get anything.

No hard feelings, but get out there and find something that works, or MAKE IT HAPPEN.

side chat completely destroys the immersion of dayz and should be disabled all the time. meet & chat in the forum, irc, faceshit, wherever you want - but don't do it ingame. it does not fit the "dayz style".

@ Takfar

They just set themselves up to fail by broadcasting all the necessary details to land a hit to everyone on the server, regardless of the recipient's intentions.

That's why I would rather you used a voice server. Because you can control who you talk to.

I'm not really going to bother with a constructed response because your response is just filled with shit. I ain't butt hurt that I lost stuff, I'm suggesting ideas to develop the mod.

If you would like to be a smart arse than so be it but your facts about Eve are wrong, look up an incident regarding Monkeysphere... that caused a lot of pain for marco users. Even punkbuster manages to keep a lot of the BF3 servers and BC2 clean and on top of that the Server admins aren't restricted as much in what they can and can't do... How do I know? Because I used to rent a few.

So...

Anti-hack program doesn't detect hackers quick enough if at all

Server admins are almost powerless

Your solution... Go find a teamspeak server? Fuck off, You must be trolling... 99% chance you don't send emails to Server admins to request their policy on hackers....

Anyway to finish, I refer to your topic asking about the power server admins have http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/51820-what-effective-tools-are-available-to-dayz-server-owners/#entry496872 So you do realise Server admins are almost powerless against hackers as well? The plot thickens...

Yea, I do use a voice server. It doesn't fit into the game's "logic", tho. I'd much rather see a very common radio tool for open communication (maybe even present on spawn), and a rare cellphone which you could add contacts to (working basically the same as a TS server, but without the alt-tabbing and IP-scribbling). And again, if it wasn't for the fully-open sidechat, we wouldn't have had that nice adventure ("get to the chopper!" while being shot at).

hehe... BUTTHURT! At 2:30am, I just *have* to say it.

Anyway if you're not going to pay attention to my post, and tell me I'm trolling, well then. I must be trolling then?

tl;dr, quit your bitching and get some nuts. Do something about your situation that solves both long and short term goals. If you refuse to be a part of a server's community via forum/voice server, and want to rely on side chat, then all you need do is play on servers that run a particular version.

It is THAT easy. Far be it from me to suggest you play on a server with proactive admins...

The one sim that has build in voip is not modern enough ?

I started playing multiplyer game because of OFP/Arma's ingame voice option.

What is this sick need for shitloads of icons on your desktop, why all these 3rd party applications ? All you need is Notepad.

Stop messing up your nice clean computer with all kinds of .net shit applications.

You probably also have all kind of internet searchbars and all kinds of "boost" software on your pc.

I am in agreement with takfar, Radios.

I would love to see ACRE mod in Day Z, I don't like side-chat it takes the realism out if it.

So far, you two have the best alternatives to Side Chat :) External voip client is the way to go!

The feeling of isolation is an intended part of the game, Rocket has said so in enough interviews now. If any form of global chat is ever re-introduced to the game it should, in my humble opinion, only be via some in-game mechanic such as (rare) loot items like CB radios.

If you want to play an interactive 3D chatroom then World of Warcraft has a free trial, soon it will have pandas too.

Not a fan of sidechat, takes any immersion and throws it out the window. I would however be in favor of the rare radio idea, and maybe some stationary broadcast towers with radio equipment inside. or maybe just like listen only for radios and some preset broadcast messages that players can send out from the radio tower so we dont have to listen to some idiot blaring music. Could be simple like "Need assistance at location" or "Warning bandits at this location stay away" with maybe the option to set them on loop, even bandits could enjoy them to lure people into a trap promising aid, or asking for it.
