Number of players on DayZ main page. Really?

So the number on the first page, that denotes "Players" and I'm guessing that means unique accounts made for DayZ, keeps increasing with a very steady pace.

I honestly smell some BS.

Number is going up steadily, about 10k every few days.

Can we get some background on how that number is being calculated?

With all the problems DayZ is having at the moment, I'm finding it extremely hard to believe, that the popularity of this mod keeps increasing and drawing in new players, especially at the rate that number seems to suggest.

That number has never been realistic.

I believe originally it represented the number of times the mod was downloaded.

Given the number of private hive servers and others irregularities.

I would say that alot of players have 2 accounts. Most start with 1 and after a while they buy another so they can have 2. That and players getting their freinds to buy it.

I do notice the number of active players is going down, and faster by the day..

Time for Rocket to get some of the veteran players back with some new content, this can`t be good :)

Why would someone need 2 accounts? Unless they were caught hacking and had to buy another one.

Can't speak for everyone, but I'm guessing the majority of us are waiting till combat logging and duping are dealt with.

also they might want to be a good guy on one and a bandit on the other, there are plenty of reasons if you think about it

Mac if I had unlimited funds I would probably have 2 or 3 accounts to store items, say I found a coyote backpack and then another one later on would swap to the second account and pick it up and store 2 guns in the bag and 1 on the character that way if my character died I would have something to start again with rather then nothing, as with tents there is the chance they will be raided and you lose your stuff anyway

I believe it was true there's couple of mounths ago but with all the hacking, bugs (saving problem, alt+f4, dupping...) and graphical glitches a lot of people have stopped playing/play on private hive. I think statistics are outdated.

I would pay more attention to the "players in last 24hr" bit that gives a more realistic ammount of players per day :) it seems to stay around 170k for last couple weeks :)

That is exactly why I have 2 accounts. Well, it started that way...then your clan gets in trouble and you don't want to switch. My "Bandit" now has higher humanity than my main.

Meh, I never paid attention to that number, think its a hit counter for the website to be honest, ( I know what its labeled) But either way I guess its a good marketing gimmick.

But interesting enough, between Twitter and Facebook there are only 60k followers/likes. Not everyone is on those social networks or any, so I get that but DayZ's best buddy WarZ has 44k followers/likes and its not even playable yet. So I don't know. Take from it what you will.

The number will continue to go down as the hacking gets worse and worse, it's becoming increasingly pointless to play DayZ at all.
