TIP: Manual install launched through steam

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Your "_runA2CO_beta.cmd" normally can't be run through Steam because it is a *.cmd file, but this can be fixed. You can compile the "_runA2CO_beta.cmd" file into an *.exe by using Quick Batch File Compiler, you can even add an icon to it. Afterwards you can add that *.exe as a non-steam game in your library at Steam.

You can even name the exe 'DayZ' so it goes by its true name :o how about that?

I found it useful since most of my mates are playing other games on steam.

Hope this can be helpful to some of you. Tell me if you need help with more detailed instructions.

Have fun :)

EDIT: By the way, "BATCHtoEXE" is a freeware program that is also capable of compiling EXE's. I am not sure if it has the feature to add icons though.

Noone found any use in this? It is as far as I know the only way to run the newest versions the day they're released, through steam. The installers don't offer the same flexibility.

As an example I'm running build 95913 / 1.7.2.5. with access to the steam overlay.

"Quick Batch File Compiler"? Pfffttt!!!!

All you have to do is duplicate the Arma:OA shortcut in steam, change a few paths to include @dayz, add non-steam game and bam.

A simple google search would have returned a billion guides on how to do this, none of them require a compiler.

Or as others have said, use DayZCommander and check the "launch from Steam" option.

How is that better than what I suggested? The cmd file is much more flexible than adding lines to a shortcut. And compiling a batch is a 1 click operation. Also, DayZ commander is not as stable as a manual build, I have friends who are experiencing problems with it.

Because you dont have to install a 3rd party compiler since your running windows?

Because you dont have to worry about your AV looking at the new .exe as a false/positive and zapping it?

Because your paths dont change, though your batch file may change during an update which could break your compiled batch file?

I could go on, but I think you get my point =)

I just think we look at things differently. The batch file refers to something else, nothing refers to it, so theres no danger with AV or BE for that matter. The compiler is useful for many things, so I don't mind having it :) I like doing something for my stuff to work, even if I have to keep my eyes open for changes to the cmd file after an update(which I will performing manually anyway).

95948 / 1.7.2.5. now.. if DayZ commander is running the same I take what I said back.
