Reposting this because the last thread was merged with another thread that had nothing to do with this, and made the entire thread make no sense.

How about instead of the magazine disappearing, you just get an empty magazine, and you can find ammo, not magazines, and fill the magazines? You wouldn't need an animation for it really, just stopping for a second and crouching down or some such.

The ammo would come in ammo boxes, and would have a number set to them. So you might find a box with 50 bullets that are .45 caliber, or you might find a box with 1 bullet that is .22 caliber.

Also, you would be able to empty mags into the ammo box, so if you find a body, and want the ammo, but not the weight of all the magazines, you can take the bullets instead. This would take just as much time as loading a magazine.

Edit This is the item I'm talking about

Would be great' date=' but again more micro managing in the game without really changing much. It would only help if you could carry more ammo per slot with a box of ammunition than if you had a magazine in that slot, otherwise there's nothing wrong with just finding new magazines.

An ammo box can hold up to 200 rounds, depending on brand, caliber, box size, etc. A magazine holds, what, fifteen? Anyways, it makes no sense to have a magazine disappear because you used it up.

Requires extensive coding.

Realistical inventory management is what everyone wished for since at least OFP:R and yet...

I really like how it's done in E5, 7.62 and Man of Prey - you can even load magazines with different ammo types in whatever order you want.

If this is more work than can be implemented quickly, i would also love an option to consolidate clips....like if you had 3 makarov clips, 1st has 4 bullets, 2nd has 2 bullets and 3'rd has 1 bullet

If you were able to sit in safety for 30 secs and move all the ammo to just 1 clip, that now has 7 bullets, clearing out space.

I don't think it would require much more coding than anything else in the game...I could be wrong though. All you're doing is exchanging bullets between the ammo box and the magazine, and the animation would just be bending over slightly, or something, and stopping for like 15-30 seconds for each magazine.

I think there is too much ammo as it is. If you can carry boxes with ammos, you'll never round out of ammo.

Idea = No me gusta

How do you figure you would never run out? Ammo could be just as rare as it is now, just found in different containers.

Was just going to post something like this myself.

We should find magazines and "boxes of ammunition". Right click the magazine and if there's an appropriate type of ammo available, you'll get an option to fill the magazine.

When the magazine is empty, you keep it so that you can refill it.

And yes, you might throw away empty magazines, but it's up to you. You could keep 3-4 magazines and simply carry around boxes of ammo to refill them but it might be more practical to simply have 12 magazines and keep topping them off every time you come across a new box of ammo.

The important thing is you could find a box of 9mm ammo and decide which magazines you want to fill. I'd rather refill my 30-round PDW magazines than keep finding 15-round pistol mags that I have to use instead.

Also would be cool if you could use different kinds of bullets for the same gun.

Well... to the extent that's realistic, I guess.

You can't use .45 caliber ammo in a 9mm gun or vice versa. (In fact, you can't use .38+P ammo in a regular .38 -- even though they're the exact same size round, the "+P" ammo explodes with more pressure and can cause a gun not rated for +P ammo to literally blow apart in your hand.)

But yeah, for the most part, a 9mm pistol takes 9mm rounds, not "Glock rounds".

The game already does this to some extent. The 9mm PDW can accept all of the 9mm pistol ammos.

The big change would be that instead of getting an MP5 magazine, I would get a box of 9mm rounds and decide for myself if they should go to the MP5 or the PDW, since they use the same rounds.

Yeah but how big is a box that holds 200 rounds compared to a magazine? I don't think soldiers lug around entire boxes in their backpack.

But military bases would have plenty on ammo boxes, why not have a really small chance to spawn a container with a particular ammo. Not really realistic but i keeps balance

so you would have to find magazines AND ammo? Instead of boxes of ammo, just give each type a maximum carry amount (one slot), and allow the player to find loose rounds, which they then have to load and unload to magazines (one slot each).

not sure if this is the same as you suggest, but it would give you the opportunity to manually consolidate mags that are low on rounds.
