Gogster (DayZ) 626 Posted August 13, 2012 AS50 is the best anti ALT F4 weapon. All the complainers can burn in a fire.Nice.
Buick72 27 Posted August 13, 2012 That's another thing. Once we got better weapons we never returned to those two largest towns. I just don't see the point - everyone tries to go there and most of the loot we would found there is useless to us anyway. Most people like to use the as50 to camp/snipe high pop areas. It's technically a legit way to play, but there is no reason to do it other than to kill fresh spawns, or those that do that sort of thing. If you use it and don't dupe ammo, no one should give two shits. Though, I do feel that using a 1 hit kill rifle feels cheap, but that might stem from playing a lot of FPS games over the years and preferring guns that take more skill to use. Getting a kill from shooting a guy in the toes has never felt ... well... legit to me.I tend to pass up as50's for DMR's and or m24's just mecause the as50 feels like cheating to me. Please keeep in mind, that is personal opinion, I don't judge you for using it, I just like to challenge myself. I get no satisfaction from a kill if the guy hit me 4 times with an ak74su, but i got a lucky shot with an as50...
vooood 4 Posted August 13, 2012 Not sure it's a problem.I'm just picking up on your comment of "beaten by a better player" when, in reality, he was beaten by someone who managed to stay hidden and snipe him first. Not really a fair contest is it?It's about how you enter an area. If someone runs headlessly into the open field of an airfield what else can he expect than to get shot? We normally circle each area before we enter it. There are good ways to find out if there are other players in the area before you enter it. Zombies spawn only when you get close so observe for any movement. Take your time. Check out the tree line and some of the buildings/roofs in the area.As I said I won't snipe someone just for the fun of it, but start dragging zombies my way or threaten me in other way and you're dead (hopefully before I'm dead). You sound like you think I'm a player killer who does that for fun and it's not true. That's where I see the problem.

Its such a waste of good ammo that takes a long time to get.EDIT: Except maybe some clans. But even then. Most Cherno/Electro campers I see are running solo. Strategos (DayZ) 190 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) I use the AS50 and love it.That doesn't mean it's right for this game. But until standalone we wont know as the current game is completely out of kilter as most people have infinite ammo and infinite guns.Sure you can choose to play legit but as most of the players out there will always take advantage of the mechanics available it's a bit irrelevant.Ill judge the balance of these weapons when the standalone comes out and fixes duping and tents. Once I had 9 mags for it at the same time, all legit and found by long play sessions and conserving it. I was unlucky enough and had to spend most of it on a horde of zombies when my brother detonated a grenade by mistake and drew all zombies in the airfield at us... My sidearm was out of ammo and the only way to defend myself and his dying body was, well, to have only two mags now.

Sniping someone down a scope from 800 yards is hardly a fair fight. It's not specific to you, all snipers in this game are the same. They want the kills without any corresponding danger to themselves. Therein lies the problem with this being a "fair fight."
arx 61 Posted August 13, 2012 a friend and i managed to steal one of these from a sniper who broke his leg and bled out on the mountain between elektro and cherno. he actually had a sniper buddy with him but he had his head too far down the scope to realise we stole that shit whilst his buddy was running back i guess.they were poor shots tho, i mean really poor, so i call duped on that shitlater that day i lost the as50 and thats a wrap

Therein lies the problem with this being a "fair fight."But what is fair or not fair here? Any player that is not cautious enough could get a headshot from my handgun from 10 yards if he doesn't notice me. I can technically hide behind a wall and shot him before he reacts. Or maybe sneak up behind him and kill him with an axe if he panicks. You can't expect people to get into what you call a fair fight in a game that is based around sneaking and survival. This is not a PvP game and neither should be combat balance enforced like in one. This should be a cooperative game mainly but we have a ton of griefers who enjoy the pain of others. I won't get into psychological reasons behind this. I think it's quite sadist behavior. And what is the definition of fair here? Should I drop my equipment and get into a fistfight with every player I encounter? I think what would be called fair here is just human compassion. And that I have a lot. But why should I be fair or spair your life if you or your actions are just about to kill me?
vooood 4 Posted August 13, 2012 And, finally, what is fair in a game where you fall down and break your leg kilometers away from any urban area? I had to crawl for more than two hours not to get healed but to get killed. Since respawning got axed this can be an unbeliveably tough and annoying game at times. But lesson learned - awoid running on castle stairs. :)
The_Albatros 72 Posted August 13, 2012 If I don't know this guy and I don't know how he got his weapon (most likely found it on another corpse) then I don't consider it cheating. Also, I have seen other "extremely rare" and "rare" weapons on heli crash sites and left them there because they're not suited to our style of play. So why is it so hard to believe that someone got spawned an AS50? I personally doubt it myself but after seeing some loot spawns I decided that it might be legit. After all it takes only some patience and luck to find a good heli crash site with a nice spawn.I found an AS50 TWS, but since I killed someone in some weird clothing with a helmet and he was lagging and desyncing around 200m at a time around us. But yeah, completely legit.

"Nox your arguments are fatuous. But that's what i would expect from someone that entitles a thread "Haters gonna hate".I think anyone with half a brain can see that there are overpowered weapons in Dayz. Which are currently mainly used by griefers. As Dayz is a game it's perfectly acceptable to discuss the role of these weapons and the focus of the gameplay without whining or hating. Especially in our roles as alpha testers. My personal opinion is that the high end military gear should go. The medium spec military gear should saty but be VERY rare (after duping is fixed) and mainly players shold be civilian survivors struggling to stay alive. There is def a role for long range weapons but I think the CZ 550 should be as far as it goes most of the time. Its good for overwatch, and can kill with a headshot if you are good but isn't overpowered.

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) It's almost impossible to play with it alone, especially in urban areas. Ammo is really way too scarce and most of our play is spending our time in very risky places trying to find one more mag for it.You can carry more than one primary weapon. It's called a backpack, newbie. Use it.Congratulations on finding an AS50 though, not that I've not dropped or left at least 4 on the floor at this point. It's just too big and too loud for my tastes. Though, it does make sniping easy with its ranging, so I can see why you like it, especially if you play on ez-mode servers (and I suspect that you do).If you want to even remotely impress anybody pick up a DMR and learn the mildots.
