Cannot choose gender ( bug?)

So as we know, the latest patch added the possibility of chosing if you want to play as a male or female character, so far so good.

So I was joining a server with a friend, and after waiting for server response etc,etc - my friend tells me about some gender choice message on his screen, he chose male and spawns shortly after.

Curious thing is that I did not get any message of the sort at all, I just spawned right away as usual .

Is this a bug or does it has something to do with my bandit skin?

Same for me and a fellow BHB member. Never given the chance to choose gender. Since the female is a ugly sob I was going to choose male anyway. Both Survivor skin.
