Sniper Rifle Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Just a thought. Everyone is complaining about sniper rifles.

I understand. If you cant use one. they are VERY OP against you. Unfortunately this game is incredibly realistic and IRL there would be people who survived with prior marksmanship experience.

That being said one of the things we could do to make them more difficult to use is force players to zero thier own scopes (effectively reducing the range of the weapons in an unskilled persons hands and reducing the number of snipers)

That being said.... this wont affect me

the only way to reduce snipers is fix the duping issue and make them rarer. i think the cz and m24 should be the most common since they arent that good but 50 cals are too common, im not complaining since i dont have a problem with snipers and i am a sniper but if they want to fix the issue thats how.

@Trigonometry

"Unfortunately this game is incredibly realistic"

If you ignore the weapon damage, sound profile, kickback, server hopping, tents, and people using TS/Vent and organizing teams on forum message boards, ability to change your name and race at will...

But, yeah, realistic.

The point of this was that IRL people like me WILL know how to shoot and will gravitate to large caliber sniper rifles for a reason...

HOWEVER one of the things you have to do IRL is to mount and sight your own scope in. Scopes are finicky. If you bump them.. and they go out.. you need to reset them.

resetting a scope without a laser bore sighter takes firing rounds. Large calibre guns (.50s) take a spotter or relatively bullet hole free wall.

This would reduce snipers as sniper rifles have slower rates of fire. I can engage a target at 0-50M w an AKM........... if you have trouble sighting in your rifle and cannot do it.... you wont hit 400M.

This will force people who do not know how to do these things to either learn or will push them towards shorter range automatic rifles.

unfortunately it will also make snipers that much deadlier

They should add ACE 2 sniping system [if you don't know what ACE is, you're obviously new to Arma, google it] into Day Z. Currently in Day Z sniping is unrealistic, there is not wind deflection, spin drift etc. Also as most servers have the view distance set server side and set rather low there is little need for 50 cals because of the fact that you can't see farther than 500 meters without the visibility being drastically reduced. With just the ballistics of ACE2, sniping would be more difficult for those who do not take the time to familiarise themselves with it and extend the time it takes for a sniper to zero you [with ACE2 it can take an experienced sniper 30 seconds or more to zero his scope let alone line up his target]

Also, boasting about your Day Z sniping prowess on a forum thread, come on you don't even take shots over 400 meters on Day Z with a sniper.

Im sorry but I do not know what ACE or ACE 2 is but if it does as you say and takes into account the other ballistic factors (temperature, humidity, elevation (IE air density), wind, spin drift) I would be all for that

I.... learned how to snipe before Day Z, before ArmA2. I can run calculations for 2300M w .50. IRL I can only hit 900m. (need more experience w wind)

Like i said I routinely take shots over 700M and dont give a fuck if I miss 4x. The M107 is a rapid fire Anti Material Rifle. It is not a 'Man-Stopper' like the .338 Lapua Magnum.

Ammo is cheap and abundant and killing people is fun as hell. Fire and adjust over 700 knowing that they have to close 400M just to decently engage you..... and if you are 100M up elevation and they

Do not know how to compensate for that then they are fucked anyway.

Im not bullshiting saying im doing speed calculations (player moving 2M/sec @ X degree = mil hold) then 4"/100M out to range mil dot holds for running. Id rather fire and adjust its faster and people are savy to snipers in this game. IF I have time Ill adjust for slant range (most of the time that is done prior to even seeing the enemy though).

My wife watched me hit a guy on full run @ 950M (into the fog)

BTW there are 2 ways to snipe in Day Z. (like a bitch who doesnt know shit pre ranging w a map or my way)
