[IDEA] Enable side chat with a new item?

I was wondering what everyone else would think about this idea.

New items/additions to the game:

Handheld CB Radio - Enables the side chat channel. Can read and write. (CB radios come mounted inside construction and military vehicles)

Batteries - For the handheld CB of course! Battery status icon possibly?

Locations of handhelds:

Police stations, fire stations, hospitals, military bases, construction yards.

What do you think about this?

Yes, for long distance communication it would work.

They need to add a side chat where only people within a certain distance can see what you wrote. in real life you don't need radios to talk to the person next to you.

They should set up a system where when you type in chat you are talking normal volume and can be heard X distance. Then to say something to the people next to you, you have to type whisper. Whisper would have a really small range just a couple feet around you. Then there could be a yell command this would increase the range you can be heard. For anything farther the radios can be used to chat between players. Anyone within a certain range can hear you on the radio maybe in a range some where between a whisper and normal chatting.

I would rather perfer a CB system.. like have a CB radio as an item that you can loot and put into your tool belt.. You turn it on boom side channel. You turn it off no side channel. I think that would maintain immersion and fullfill all sides.

I don't think radios could be limited to just side chat though, why not implement different frequencies so that you could spy on other people's transmissions? Maybe a much rarer military version of the radio could have secure channels, but it would certainly add some depth to the game

I'd love the idea of secure channels and spying but clanners would just use TeamSpeak, Steam's voicechat etc. A simple device to allow global chat would be a great start. What I'd like is maybe some kind of device that can pinpoint the source of the transmission (radio power?) which would add a sense of risk when using it.

Other pinpoint location ideas:a device that can tell you which direction a gunshot came from (exists in real life) and a parabolic microphone so you can pick up other player' direct communications,

Side chat adds a lot of teamwork to the game. I've organised trades, met up with people, and had a blast, all because of communication.
