Things you would like to see in the standalone game.

Recommended Posts

Seeing how DayZ is now free from the bonds of Arma 2 the sky is the limit as far as its potential to explore new game play experiences.

I would really like to see a more visceral and dynamic combat experience and I think one of the best ways to accomplish that is by building a robust melee system. Melee weapons should have a dedicated slot so that one can be equipped on the fly and they should be incredibly easy to come by. They would be available in dozens of different varieties ranging from 2x4's and baseball bats to knives and large fire axes.

To go along with this I think that there should be much less emphasis placed on crazy military gear and much more emphasis on commonly found weapons and equipment consistent with the setting of the game. The map is based on the Czech Republic which doesn't exactly have a limitless budget for military spending. All manner of Russian weapons like the AK and its variants should be very common while AS50s and the like should simply be non existent. I'm not saying that all high end military rifles need to be removed (though some certainly have no place like thermal scoped weapons) but most should be very rare indeed.

No offense but the game you describe sounds more like left 4 dead 2 than dayz. There are many reasons why the player base came to this game in the numbers it has, and while the game might not be perfect it has its merits. I do not think it would do justice to the project to begin reshaping it to fit the molds of other games. I think the combat system is visceral and dynamic as is, and the fact that it is not a non stop in your face combat game as most fps are is not a problem as I see it. It can be played as a very subtle game, but perhaps this is not for everyone. Luckily there is more than one way to play the game, just be careful when suggesting a reworking of the combat system it is keeping this facet of the game intact.

Guns less common, same with ammo, big focus on traps, like trip wires ect, bow and arrows would be pretty cool, ability to make stuff out of limited supplies to create traps for animals/humans? tbh, make zombies tougher if not more of them.. i know it may sound bad at first, but I think it would add reasons not to just kill on sight, you would need to co-operate more.. sure u can kill em after though if u wish :)

Wild dogs or somthing, or zeds in woods/fields ect, oh ye... and better security system!

What about an auto pilot function? Getting kind of a sore hand from running like a mad man :P

A wider variety of bows and crossbows plus a arrow holder or something. Now I feel like its kinda useless to pick up a crossbow because even at max ammo you still run out in no time.

I would also like to see an update for the zombie movements. Now they only seem to have two speeds, slow and turbo. So when they are chasing you they do that weird shocking walk thing.

For the client ofc a friendlist, clan list that kind of stuff (which will probably be there anyways).

I'm not saying the game should be more like L4D at all (that game never captured my interest). I'm also not saying the combat system needs to change per say I'm merely suggesting something that could be added to it in order to improve upon it. Melee weapons, especially improvised ones would be very common in this setting and, in my mind, makes way more sense with regards to survival then .50 cal sniper rifles do.

You are exactly right! Here is a post I made in a different thread on this topic:

I think zombie behavior needs to change dramatically (and it will, especially in standalone). Zombies need to have a dull awareness of their surroundings and be more prone to investigating noises and sights rather then just sprinting off to attack the rustling sound in the grass or the silhouette of a body in the distance. I think the quantity of zombies needs to rise overall and their behavior should facilitate the possibility of large groupings forming and wandering around together. They also need to investigate gunshots from much further away. If a player can hear it, a zombie should be able to hear it and lumber in its in direction to check it out (not somehow acquire the shooters location instantaneously and sprint off to eat them like they do now). Lastly, zombies should be much more difficult to lose which will change when pathing gets fixed and they don't slow to a walk inside buildings.

I think that when zombies become a bigger threat more focus will be placed on avoiding them and thus people will think twice before needlessly shooting at others and drawing attention to themselves.

This, plus a kind of a difficulty difference depending on location/type of zomb. I feel like this would be a bit overkill for beginning players who just start on the beach and (like now) a bit easy for players whom have gathered a decent loot. So like avoid the army zombs and the "king zomb" (like Robert Carlyle was in 28 weeks later, omg thinking of this what about stalking zombies??!?).
