Start Gear - Weapon Missing

Hi,

I am new to DaysZ. Started playing yesterday.

After reading thru the Beginners Thread, I saw that my gear should also include a pistol and ammo, but I don't have that. Unfortunately I don't have any weapons.

Is this, how it should be? Do I have to find a weapon?

Is it also possible, to defend yourself with your hands (kicking zombies)?

There's no melee against the zombies, unless you find an axe or hatchet. You no longer start with any weapon, check the barns and houses stealthily to try and find one.

No weapons... no nothing. You have to find it. Also, no you cannot defend yourself with hand to hand combat.

Fortunately hatchets are pretty easy to find. Just run to the neares industrial spawn or some barn. You´ll probably find it right away.

And yes I mean run. There´s no point in sneaking because zombies have to walk inside. Zeds are easy to lose once you learn the tricks. Plus you don´t have anything to loose as a fresh spawn.

and if you wonder why there is no longer a gun in your starting kit. 1. There used to be significally more grieving on the beach on freshspawns 2. Freshspawns have nothing to lose so when they did get a weapon they went on a rampage 3. Rocket intended with this for a bit more teamplay

Nope, they changed it so your start with NOTHING!!

It's more realistic that way, no one would have been expecting a zombie apocalypse, so it makes sense that you have nothing on you.

Finally, no it is not possible to defend yourself using your hands, can you imagine if you punched a zombie and your hand got stuck in its chest? Wouldn't be pretty!

Hatchets are a fun weapon. Sneak up behind a zombie. One swing. Zombie down. Silent and deadly.

When I re-spawn, my first priority is a hatchet. Once in hand, I get to a big city and quickly start hitting the high yield points - if a zombie sees me, I back into a corner, crouch and wait, and then swing, and zombie down. In no time at all, I pretty well loaded with essential gear and off to remote, open fields to hunt animals.
