zgrav 1 Posted August 12, 2012 DayZ mod got me really interested on purchasing Arma, but I read that there's a standalone coming one of these days, which got me in a bit of a "Should I buy it or not?" hassle :P .Also, I read that you can play the game by downloading Arma II Free and owning a legal copy of Operation Arrowhead, I already own the Operation Arrowhead, but is the Free version going to work properly with the DayZ mod? In terms of files and anticheat based I mean.
CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted August 12, 2012 Yes all you need it Arma II free and the Arrowhead expansion. The mod is only for the expansion. So you don't have to wait until the stand alone version!

Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted August 12, 2012 You already have what you need to play so enjoy! Just be aware that by using Arma Lite you'll have low res. textures and sounds files for many objects and most of the map but as a compromise it's not too bad at all.
ACOGshot 38 Posted August 12, 2012 Alot of people play in low-res anyway, to avoid FPS issues during intense gun-battles. It's still a very enjoyable experience.

I played using low res for a while and to be honest the experience is exactly the same. Obviously you get some nice eye candy using high res textures but the actual gameplay is unchanged and it can help with your framerates.
