Is this normal?

Every single time I play, I have to run the DayZ updater, and it takes about 10-15 minutes with my internet connection. If I download it at night, turn my PC off, come on the next morning i have to do it again.

Does the game update that much?

In fact, you will have to update once more tomorrow, as a hot fix is likely on the way. It will become more stable in time.
