Optimizing DayZ on Computer

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have recently purchased Arma CO and installed the DayZ mod to play with friends fully knowing that when I got it, my computer wasn't going to be able to play it on very high settings.

However, based on reports for several people, there are things that I can do to optimize it better to run on my machine.

My computer is a Thinkpad T420 with an Intel i5-2540 @ 2.6 ghz with 8 gb of Ram and a dedicated NVIDIA NVS 4200M graphics card with 1 gb dedicated memory.

Currently, I can run the game at 25-30 fps only on the absolute lowest 3D resolution settings, very low graphics, and 1000 m sight radius. It is playable and I am happy it runs at least, but I am wondering if I can do anything else to boost the performance short of buying a new laptop. Are there any settings I can change to make it run a bit better? Also, when DayZ comes out as a standalone game on the Arma III engine, will it make it even worse to play on my setup, or will it be better?

Lastly, what do you guys consider a playable FPS?

Thank you very much. I appreciate the help.

Well, from my experience. Visabitity does not change anything.

So put it to the lowest setting possible (won't change a lot but it helps a bit).

Click [Advanced] and experiment with those settings,

my computer use to only go 15-20 FPS when playing,

but now I run 60+

In short, no, the GPU is the problem for you and you cant change it in a laptop as it will be soldered into the motherboard.

Honestly laptops still suck at gaming even in 2012 unless you spend £3k but because you cant simply upgrade each component seperatly, its a massive waste of cash.
