WeaponTheyFear7 10 Posted May 27, 2012 I feel as if each server should have its own database. This would reduce server response problems, character data problems, and would allow for private server hosting. I feel as if standardization is not the best route for this mod to take in general. If servers were allowed their own database, there could also be more customization. I support PvP but why not broaden the userbase by allowing Non-PvP servers? Give the people what they want and if you don't like PvP, join that server. If you like PvP, don't join it. As simple as that. Players want options.PvP is just one thing that would change, maybe someone wants a server where your spawning gear is different? Or maybe a server with dramatically increased bullet damage? Or maybe a 20 second logout clock to prevent disconnects from death?Giving each server a database of its own would allow for this mod to become so much better. Plus, as a HUGE benefit, you can kiss server hopping exploits goodbye. Your inventory and all your equipment will stay on ONE server. On top of all that, if you then have "home servers" where your gear is, the server would have informal reputations based on your actions. This will appease EVEN MORE players that fill these forums with reputation or "I know him" style requests. If someone is on a server and kills people they will be known for being a bandit. This allows other bandits to potentially see an ally, survivors to see an enemy, and allow the bandit himself to become infamous. EVERYBODY WINS. So my real question is: why doesn't each server have its own database yet? Take the constant pressure off the Hive, the DayZ team, and especially Rocket, and give the community more control. Outlaw (DayZ) 1 Posted May 27, 2012 That would destroy the idea of this great game. Bandits will be kicked for murder etc. If you separate PvE players from PvP players like Ultima Online did 10 years ago only a shell will remain. PKs need prey if you take the quarry away this game is done.
Bandit Hunter 29 Posted May 27, 2012 Somebody suggested this the other day, I believe, and Rockets response was along the lines of "that's how it was at the beginning, and we will NEVER go back!"Not sure the reasoning why, its just what I read.

And if bandits were kicked for murder, then don't play on servers that have shitty staff that would do such a thing. And I believe you are a "carebear" for whining about PKing. Being a Bandit is basically the only way to stay alive in game now and I at least want a choice in the matter.Besides, that is only one point of this whole concept. Your narrow-mindedness says much about your intelligence.
dharion@drahl.com 5 Posted May 27, 2012 Quite sure Outlaw is more intelligent then you state, seeing as you instantly resort to name-calling after him just making a valid point. What fun is it to be a survivor when your only fear is the zeds? The players, and not knowing their mindset towards you, is what makes it exciting. On the database point; Wouldn't mind it, but only to reduce load to the MS, so temporary i.e. only when logging in, until you log out. Nothing persistent.
maxovitsj@gmail.com 4 Posted May 27, 2012 I have to say no to this.I like the whole idea of no matter where I join, I have my stuff. I don't want to be limited to just one server. I don't really care about the whole bandit thing, dying is part of this game. Also, Weapon, please stay friendly.. no need to say things like that.
Bomba1 1 Posted May 27, 2012 > So my real question is: why doesn't each server have its own database yet? Think, player will lost his progress while reconnect to another servers, because for sample player primary preferred server is shutdown.
Outlaw (DayZ) 1 Posted May 27, 2012 Where do I whine?
WeaponTheyFear7 10 Posted May 27, 2012 Minecraft is one far-out example although the base game is entirely different, some of the ideas are similar. And as far as me insulting him, it was merely a response for his instant rep -1 merely for stating my opinion and backing it. I merely replied to his "carebear" comment.Keep in mind that PKing is one aspect of a larger idea here. If the only hole you find in my idea is how much you love the unrealistic PvP, then I must be doing pretty good. Plus, the option could be entirely eliminated from the server options if Rocket chose to do so. I am offering an idea here to be added to. It is much easier to shoot down someone's ideas or poke holes in it than constructively add content and ideas.I am far more concerned about customization and faster, better working connections. peetgamer 10 Posted May 27, 2012 @ WeaponTheyFear7,That would make all prive little clubs for friends and openess we still have now (all tho shrinking even now) is gone. Its would destroy DAYZ i for one would QUIT.

WeaponTheyFear7 10 Posted May 27, 2012 My friends and I are actively looking into a way to change Rocket's code if needed to tweak the game to our liking, as well as creating full backups of every single update. I love the idea behind this mod but the direction worries me at times. I am trying to secure my piece of a game that I love.A zombie survival-shooter with a few RPG aspects is what I have wanted to play for years now. I refuse to let this go to waste. If Private Servers were allowed, I would put two servers up. One with the current system in place and try to increase the amount of zombies that is on it to make it even more difficult. I would put the Zombie, back in zombie apocalypse.Another with PvP off, and I would like to add 2x as many zombies, and have them each deal 2x damage. I want to play a zombie survival sim, not an open world deathmatch shooter with some zombies in it that are of little to no threat. That way I would fear a horde; currently I do not. WeaponTheyFear7 10 Posted May 27, 2012 I just said tweak, specifically to fix tents and vehicle storage and a bunch of other problems. I didn't mean a full blown reverse engineering project. I still think server side databases would solve a ton of the problems the game is facing and encourage more people to play this.
