TriKz (DayZ) 3 Posted August 11, 2012 I know this has been discussed a million times, but I want to clarify and understand the community's point of view. Now killing. I ask this: when should you kill. Here are some points I see.1) Killing a player with a gun. This is completely justified. Another player with a gun is a threat, and could kill you in a single bullet. Trust is hard earned in the real world, and in the game world, even harder. A simple betrayal for better equipment is justified, and the concept "don't trust anybody" is shown. However, you could try to make friends with this person with a gun. You may be shot. You may be betrayed. But a gun is a gun, and is dangerous all the same. Whether you take the risk is your choice.2) Killing a player with a hatchet.Same as above. Weapons are weapons, and a hatchet is a easy 1 2 swing, dead. So yes, hatchets have the same concepts as guns. Be weary about hatchets, and just as cautious as if that player had a gun. Making a friend with a hatchet has the same basis in general: betrayal is easy. Friendship is hard.3) Killing a player without a weapon. This, I believe, is where the line is drawn. Killing a player without a weapon is like killing a sheep without a hunting knife. It's meaningless, but fun. Of course, people will bring up how that player could come back with a weapon to kill you. However, if you have a weapon, no matter the situation, that player is innocent. He/she is defenseless. You are not. You can shoot and be content you murdered another person, for no apparent reason. Claim that that person will try to obtain a weapon and wouldn't hesitate to do the same. But how would you know. How would you know is the question. You wouldn't, because that person is dead. You didn't find out whether that person was friendly, was about to betray you, would split up from you as soon as he found a weapon, anything. You didn't find out because you killed him/her for no apparent reason. The point of this game I thought was to feel the tension of a person, whether you can trust them or not. Not to kill 'em before you even have a chance to deduce that fact.I still understand why people kill people: people like killing. If people didn't like killing, they wouldn't touch a fps, a mmorpg, a rpg. But killing a person who is as defenseless as a lamb against you....I'll leave that for you to decide.Overall, it's all boils down to this. It's harder to do the right thing, and easier to do the wrong thing.
ZekkCC (DayZ) 51 Posted August 11, 2012 How people choose to react is half the fun. The reason why most situations even HAVE tension is because most players have been killed on sight many times. Just a thought.
:VADER: 88 Posted August 11, 2012 It really depends on the situation you are in and how you have been playing. Here is a prime example of how I play. I was looting elektro getting my camp all geared up , as I ran back into town for some guns i had spotted on one of my other runs, A random player calls out friendly. Myself having camo clothing A Magnum,Mp5 and the works to live off of I asked where are you ? He said the hospital I said come in the school and I'll hook you up . So all he had was an axe. After a little brief chat He told me he was meeting his buddy in cherno ect so i asked if he needed a guide ect so I managed to get him an ak and some other gear , showed him one of the bunkers i set up and showed him some really good loot spots between elektro/cherno . We got to cherno and we both went our separate ways. At any point he could have killed me for all my gear , So i had a grenade ready just in case :PPretty much if people are being dicks you shoot them if they are cool then leave them be or help them out. Allyourbase51 38 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Noob tears are delicious.Kidding.The only murder i have on record is when a guy that was riding in my S1203 van decided to jump out while i was doing 80 klicks outside of elektro. He made a strangely satisfying *thump* as he went under the car.
