Do players' characters persist (ie, maintain gear and location) through server/version updates? With Rocket releasing this new version (to fix the artifact problem), I've been wondering.

Yup, mine always have. Be prepared to log in and see an empty backpack though. Might be worth stashing any good stuff you have in a tent if you can.
