My first hours Dayz .....

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I played my first few hours. I was dropped along the coast in a place where I could choose to go 1 km to travel to Tulga. Or I could choose for Kamyshovo that was 3 km away from me. I chose to loot town where I was dropped first. Unfortunately nothing of use was found so a journey towards Tulga was my first choose . Night and forest not entirely happy together but I was not spotted by Z's or players in the dark.

When I arrived at Tulga I was disappointed. Since the town was big enough to put on a sign, I had hoped to find a larger village. After a few minutes watching, I decided to go into the village to look for stuff. Unfortunately, my hunger and thirst strike up so already some haste was required. I could not find anything in the village at least nothing to eat and drink. An empty gun and some useless loot. Until I suddenly stumbled against a player who probably had a system failure or something. I opened his backpack but no food. I stole his flares, then 1 thrown so it allowed me to go ahead without Z's looking for me.

After Tulga I decided to travel to Staroye Msta and Novy Sobor. I unfortunately never arrived. In the mountains, I came along a shed with 2 Z's around. Meanwhile, the day came and so I was more visible. But never knew I would be spotted as quickly. Since I wanted to shake off the Z, I decided to run into the forest and the shade to be found. After walking the walk miles Z unfortunately still behind me and I chose to be killed by it.

Do you guys have tips for me how I can shake Z at daylight?

Where can I get the best weapons and other stuff?

Where is the best place to find food en drinks?

@ Developers. Based on the dozens of zombie movies I've seen I must say that the Z's are having too good vision in my opinion (as far as you can say how “realistic” a zombie can be.). Especially if you are spawned with nothing on you, it is very difficult to get through the first day. Perhaps the sight of zombies must be adjust?

Run through buildings to lose zombies, or run up steep hills where it makes you walk, if you run diagonally side to side you will get up the hill quicker, but the zombies will just go straight up it requiring them to walk, also food and drink are in residential buildings and shops mainly, Guns are mainly in Barns or military loot areas such as deer stands and barracks, you can find pistols etc in some houses though

Being chased? Run through buildings with two doors. Barns are you best friend. Running up a hill well alternating W+D, and W+A To strafe, will cause zombies to go straight up hill, slowing them down, well you can run up faster.

Weapons and gear? Military camps are the best bet. Notable areas, NW Airfield, NE Airstrip, Balota Airstrip. and Starry Nova tents.

Food and drinks? Look in houses, or on zombie corpses. Get a Knife, Matches, and a Hatchet, and you can hunt/cook meat off animals for 800 blood a piece. A Canteen is also nice (Water Bottle). You can fill it at ponds after drinking from it.

Fir trees in the forest will also break line of sight.

Your first few starts will probably be rough, even disastrous, but in a little time, you'll find out how to scavenge properly without getting killed. One thing to keep in mind, that drastically lowers the time you take to loot a town, is to know which buildings can be entered. If you can see through a building's windows, you can enter it and it will have some loot. Even the crappy houses with one or two loot spawns can get you anything from big backpacks (alice) to ghillie suits and the like. Food, drink and guns included.

As for the line of sight, losing zombies is easy, but then again, so is dodging them. When in towns, go prone and keep your distance to about 10 meters from the nearest zombie and you should go by unnoticed. You can also choose to sprint and loot a town on the fly, only picking houses you can run through, dropping some zombies inside houses and leaving the rest in the woods. This makes you an easy target to other players though.

There's a lot for you to learn, thats all there is. Don't expect to be an expert on your first time.

You can shake them easy enough, if you keep running, they will sprint up on you from pretty far away, but will stay on your heels, not hitting you.

They are line of sight aggro, mostly, so if you fine some thick brush/trees, zig and then zag. Have even broken line of sight from a few simple trees, skirting the trunk and moving over slightly to break LOS. Once it's broken, you can prone as they might pick it up again if you keep running and you think you are in the clear. Hold ALT and look behind you as well to see LOS.

Can also run into a building, Zeds can't run inside, only walk.

First day is pretty tough when you start, after you get the hang of the Zeds aggro range, they are easy to get around....with some crawling/crouch-walking.

I tried to tough it out without the dayz db map the first few days...died a few times of freezing starvation in the woods too many times until I broke down. Tree stands/barns are your best bet, and if you hit up chern/electro for med supplies, get in and get out or expect to be shot up.

Apparently if you back yourself into a pine tree the zombies cant see you and give up after a while, I haven't tested it but I saw it in action in a vid. At 1:20
