Rant about you veterans

Recommended Posts

So I'm a newbie, today I spawned in Cherno, looted a few things there and got a makarov and a winchester. I went to Elektro, on the way there was a huey landing in Elektro. I tried avoiding them, I went into a building to loot some stuff and suddenly they manage to find me even though they weren't able to see me. Well sure, not trying to accuse of hacking but anyway, they told me over VOIP that they didn't have guns and that there were zombies coming in the building, I had to kill those zombies to get out of the building which I did. I was out of ammo which they've probably noticed and there's their AK pointed at my head. Sure, that's a fair way to let the newbies get the hang of it. Also, one day I spawned in Kamenka and out of nowhere a guy in a ghillie suit comes out of his bush, shoots me and then teabags me. How nice of you, veterans. And sure I understand it's part of the game but isn't this going a bit too far?

that Kamenka episode is probably some 12 year old, as practically nobody goes to Kamenka, there is nothing there...feel sorry for you but everyone has these kind of stories....would suggest that if you want to gear up to choose a lower population server, less chance of running into people.

These are not veterans. These are nubs who don't wanna play nice. Not everyone is like that, especially that ghille fuck who spends his time killing fresh spawns. But you're going to find that most people tend to shoot on sight, or treat you with something resembling human paranoia, because they dunno what you've got up your sleeve. You may not have a gun but you could have had a grenade tucked in your crotch or something.

You might want to try for low population servers until you get the hang of the mod. If I were you, I'd stay there even after you do...

Frankly, I don't think it's a problem with "veterans". If you look around the forums, most people have been playing for a couple months at most. Finding a helicopter or a ghillie suit can be a matter of luck, I remember spawning once and getting one on the first building I entered.

This mod has a lot of players who seem to think it's just another FPS with zombies in the middle. It certainly is NOT. But good luck making them understand that.

There were only 4 people on the server.

DayZ is a harsh and brutal game. You'll meet a mix of people, from those who are willing to help, to those who will shoot you in the leg so you can't walk, and drag you around and zombies munch on your brains screaming. Comparing whats happened to me, and to you, sounds like you've been unlucky (although I started a couple of months back when there was less people).

The best way to avoid players, I find, is don't spend too long down in the large cities. Usually, I go for: a weapon (both primary and side arm, doesn't matter which, as long as it's something), 1 or 2 bits of food, 1 or 2 water (preferably water bottles), 3 bandages, at least 1 morphine and painkillers, a better backpack than the standard and a hunting knife. As soon as I have the majority of that, i'll head inland get the fuck away from the cities. Berezino is a large city, but there is usually few if any survivors there. So you want stuff at the start, it's a good place to go.

Top buildings of priority: supermarkets, hospitals, military tents if in cherno or firestation in electro (not the one in the field though next to the powerstation, thats a death trap), large orange or red bricked residential buildings, or diners on the corners of cities. Recognizing which buildings you can get into will come to you over time, and from that, you can over-watch towns inland and way up whether it's worth going in or not.
