A mechanic to prevent DayZ turning into a massive DM

Recommended Posts

Okay - why don't we adopt a rule in this thread to avoid the circular arguments.

- Post descriptions of mechanics to solve the problem' date=' and I will consider them and we can discuss.[...']

You want a mechanic? Here is the mechanic: Mass murderers have to heavily suffer when being killed. The more people you kill, the longer you have to wait for a respawn.

Maybe like: Kills * 0,5 * hours. And this value will reset only if you get eventually killed.

Or even better: Kills * 0,5 - Playtime in hours = Respawn Penalty in hours

The latter will eventually not affect banditry at all. But it will effectivly prevent people from joining the coastal beanwar.

The idea is that people tend to behave like dicks because they're lacking the fear of having just ONE single life like IRL. This mechanic will make you think twice before pulling the trigger. The key is, that this doesn't affect a bandit while being in-game. The penalty is only applied after being dead.

Killing on sight will probably become less common. Because nobody wants to stockpile hours and hours of waiting for a respawn.

Oh, okay. I'll just go and eat something.

Cry us a river.

Like one fourth of suggestions is about punishing bandits in some way.

It's not about punishing bandits.

It's just indirectly punishing mass murderes. If you're going to hunt down players it will eventually not affect you at all. Be smart, stay alive.

Why do people always have bad suggestions about dealing with bandits?

If you don't like them, take the initiative to shoot them. Or at least actually watch yourself.

1.) Every player needs a unique physical appearance - clothing, facial hair, hat, sunglasses etc.

2.) Every major town should contain a noticeboard with 'Wanted posters' - physical descriptions of the worst bandits (5+ murders gets you on the list). Could even add 'artists impressions' (crude sketches).

3.) Only bandits currently in the server are listed.

At least that way people would have more info about who to avoid.

cool idea, even though i love hunting players, this sounds like a viable way to restore the seemingly lost ability to find players that arent hostile on sight

Syrasa, why is this a bad suggestion? You lack some solid counterarguments here.

it's a bad suggestion because it judges the player, and the only value judgement DayZ is meant to make is 'How many days did you live after DayZ?'

if you want civilisation to survive after DayZ you need to build it yourself, the game world should not help you make friends

I have a circle of buds that I run with, and we're friendly to all (if you want in shout the 'DayZ Survivors' steam group and we'll think about it)

unless we're on a raid or have all the gear we could want and are bored, in which case we'll rack up the kills in the sobor region

we're a tribe, absolutely natural human behaviour, but a game creating such a construct? that's amazing

Means justify the ends.

As long as bandits always have a visible identifier' date=' you will know who is dangerous. And if the suggestion link bellow is implemented, there will be drastically less accidental kills:

[/quote']

Bandit Skins will be removed therefore there is no visible indicator left.

Holstering pistols on the other hand won't change anything.

I assume that the fear of death is the only way preventing people from raising pointless killing sprees. Fear of Death = Longer respawn timer. This idea is not against banditry per se. Banditry is a key element of DayZ.

There are lots of PvE games out there that might suit you better.

And what is your solid arguement? Game experience should be handicapped for shooting other people?

I doubt there would be rainbows and unicorns in an apocalypse.

Hello, i think being a bandit has more advantages than being survivor (looting your victim, fun of fragging). To balance this, i d suggest:

You can t bandage yourself, only other surviver can badage you. Bandits can t bandage anybody. But bleeding shall be less massive and stops after a curtain time.

Increasing worrying being killed:

- you spawn without any weapon, but it should be possible to hide or run away from chasing zombies till they stop chasing you

- you can t spawn for about 15 mins (but during this time you can travel around as a raven (seen this in another mod)... or chasecam or...)

Increasing worrying being without company:

Shaking view and moaning because of fear and loneliness.

Greets

Dayz doesn't need some artificial rule to enforce banditism.

It needs well organized "sheriffs" and strike teams that specialize in "Bandit and other pest removal". Bad guys are just so much more organized in this game than the good guys. All we really need is couple of organized, well geared deathsquads that patrol around only to kill bandits.

Too bad the bandit skin will be removed soon.

Why are you directly handicapped? If you choose to kill as many players as possible: Fine' date=' do it. But this mechanic will encourage you to stay alive even longer, so be smart. But, most important, it will eventually embank the coastal-beanwars.

This is a PvP game.

It's more of a PvE/PvP mixture.

You want to limit PvP in a PvP centric game, why?

All thats needed is to either remove the makrorov pistol from spawn or reduce the amount of clips to 1.

To get riddd of the stupid costal deathmatch area, as it it now visiting elektro or cherno on a server with more then 10 players ends up in slugfests :<

Because DayZ is no friggin CoD-Deathmatch-clone. People tend to forget that.

And where exactly does it limit PvP?

This, fortunately, will never happen because of rocket's philosophy for the game. You should never punish someone for having a different playstyle.

He's completely right too. This mechanic would also punish long-term survivors anyway; it's PVP, you will end up killing someone and ,unless you feel like carebearing it up with randoms, your going to kill more people the longer you're alive for.

Hate to say it, but it's a bit carebeary.

This is what I was thinking regarding the whole deathmatch fest thing...

The way everything is setup now, with "perma death" and all, who has something to lose? Only those who's played for a while. The 5 minute fresh player has nothing to lose, so you can just keep running around shooting whoever you want, dying, respawning, and just keep doing that.

Isn't this the biggest problem? Maybe even the completely new player should have something to lose. Just a bad example of a rule, but if you die within 30 minutes of having spawned a new character you can't spawn again for 5 hours. Just an example of consequence not necessarily a suggestion.

But it's not right that only those who's played for a long time have something to lose.

Your solution will make it so that fresh players cant defend themself against other players. If you dont want to PvP go N into the woods. You can run there for hours not seeing a single player. Whats the problem?

there should not be any mechanic that prevents or at all penalize anyone for player killing sprees. that goes against the spirit of the mod.

however there really ought to be a mechanic that makes people think twice before taking a life. as it is already, weapons and ammunition is very wide spread and easy to find, heck you start out with a pistol and a decent amount of mags.

when some sort of melee weapon is implemented i suggest players starting without a fire arm, this makes them put in more time to finding one, time= value to one's life

place that with global chat removal, this will really hamper people who just spawn, frag then die. rinse and repeat
