SoWeMeetAgain 100 Posted August 9, 2012 Hello there!I currently have no graphics card, jusing the onboard from my mainboard. It is pretty ok but I would like a graphics card now, I like higher details.Which graphics card would be good to get with the following hardware? Keep in mind that I probably won't need the bestest of the best because I couldn't use it anyways, the other stuff would bottleneck too much.Unfortunately I have absolutely no clue about the current state of graphics cards so I have no proposals myself :(What I have:Mainboard: ASRock Z68 Pro3 (with Intel® HD Graphics 3000 onboard)CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 4x 3.30GHz So.1155 BOXHDSA 500GB Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 7.200U/min 16MB cachePSU 500W Arctic Cooling Power Fusion 550RDDR3 4GB (2x 2048MB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1333 DIMM CL9-9-9-24thank you for your help! green-K- 101 Posted August 9, 2012 Something like a AMD Radeon HD6850. 120€ for quite good performance.
Tweakie 199 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Nvidia 670 is the current best graphics card I would recommend... problem is you have a 500W PSU, will maybe just work without problems....but cutting it abit close.Maybe look at a 650 (EDIT: 640, there is no 650 yet, sorry for the confusion, misstype) nvidia or a 7770~ AMD...a 6850 will also be abit close to your PSU limit..but is a fine card. Abruz 12 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) You're going to notice a huge improvement when switching from integrated to a discrete graphics card. Just shop around and, depending on your preference of ATI/nVidia, a card from around $150-$250 should be plenty for current gaming but an even more expensive card would obviously be better. As stated before, a 500w PSU may limit your choice so be sure to check the power consumption of these new cards and decide whether or not you should be investing in a new power supply too. Theplanbpill 12 Posted August 9, 2012 With a 500 watt power supply you could barely pull off getting an HD 7770. Good card, got one for my boss. But if you're looking to play DayZ at any respectable framerate I recommend you get something like a HD 7850. Little bit better price to proformance. You may be able to get away with that 500W, and I also suggest going up to 8GBs of ram. It's the "sweet spot" for gaming.I'm a tech geek. Put waaaay too much time into my computer
Theplanbpill 12 Posted August 9, 2012 Something like a AMD Radeon HD6850. 120€ for quite good performance.Wouldn't recommend you get a last generation card. Although I'm currently running an HD 6950, and it's a great card. You never want to buy last gen. You'll save money in the long run plus for your needs with a 500W, the 7XXX series uses MUCH less power.

Ive been using this card plugged into a 42inch samsung 3d tv and it has good picture quality and also plays 3d movies good. Your power supply should cope well with this card, and it should suit the rest of the set-up,unless you playing battlefield 3 or other graphics demanding games i wouldn't spend much more on one, a link for the card is below, also have a look on the site see if their are any deals going as every now and again a real good one will be dropped to £100 for a short timehttp://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx550tifermiseries/engtx550tidi1gd5.html

Had a 550ti mate. Had problems with it crashing minecraft(??? IKR?) Then I looked at this list that came with the NVIDIA drivers that showed all the recommend and not recommend games. Wait, wtf a graphics card that couldn't handle OpenGL Minecraft. And that's when I decided I was done with NVIDIA cards.
SoWeMeetAgain 100 Posted August 9, 2012 Hmmm... I think I will go with an HD7850, considering all I read here.I hope my power supply will be good enough to handle it, otherwise I will have to update. And I hope that setup will be good enough to play Arma3, too :)Have a nice dayZ and thank you for your help! Beans have been given ;)
