What makes a bandit?

How does one become a bandit?

I'm just asking because my friend killed me the other day and he recived a murder for that.

I had 4 murders and 0 bandit kills...

How was I not a bandit?

You get a bandit kill if you shoot someone who recently committed murders.

If you shoot someone who's not recently committed murders, you just get a murder.

Do you know how long the time window is? I've been looking for this information too, and haven't been able to find anything other than the old humanity system. I've also heard that it might be hidden now, though this thread would seem to say otherwise. Thank you

I see, so with 1.7.3, if I have murdered someone and recived a balaclava(or whatever you wanna call it, mask) that mask will go away after some time?

I'm kinda confused by all of this, how does humanity work into this?

Being a bandit is temporary but humanity is permanent?

The bandit skins were removed before I started playing. I'm not sure exactly how the humanity system works now, but when I shot someone who killed my friend I got a bandit kill instead of a murder.

That same friend has since murdered so many people that he has a really loud heartbeat on him at all times. I don't know if everyone who kills him would get a bandit kill, or if they'd only get a bandit kill if he recently murdered someone.

Yea my friend heard heartbeats from me, not sure if he did by the time he killed me though.

And I mentioned the masks and stuff because rocket said in an interview with machinima that he would bring masks to 1.7.3 instead of whole outfits, so you can see who's a bandit or not.

And if you have very high humanity you would get like a scarf or something.

So question is how long those things would last...

There is no mask anymore. Not in... several months I think at this point. I forgot which patch removed it.

You can look directly at someone and depending on how low their humanity score is you hear a louder heart-beat sound. (Tested this yesterday with some friends, it works just fine at close ranges).

I believe you need a significant number of kills (15?) to be classified as a bandit. This effectively makes you a bandit, there are NO visible appearance differences that I am aware of. Only indication is the heartbeat sound while you are aiming at them.

That is based on old information from 1.7.2. I literally killed someone within 3 seconds of them killing another player, and got a murder not a bandit kill. This has happened a few times as I like killing the player killers when I have the chance.

This leads me to believe it requires a large number of kills, and not just a proximity to time of last kill for someone to be classified as a bandit.
