When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!

Recommended Posts

We fixed our first chopper yesterday and went touring the edges of the map with it. We found about thirty tents on the edge and outside the map.

It's simple really. Off map is not meant to be valid play area. This is evidenced by the fact that nothing is out there, not even grass. Anyone applying even a small amount of critical thinking skills will realize that this is a video game and as such has a limited amount of playable area due to various processing restrictions, so there by necessity must be a defined "edge" to the play area. Most game handle this by adding invisible walls past which you can not move, and this works in most cases.

The reason we do not have these invisible walls is because of the ARMA2 base game. In that you have jets and such flying vehicles that travel very fast, and sometimes have a very wide turning radius. So the developers decided to leave the edge of the map open to allow these jets ample room to bank and turn without hitting an invisible wall and blowing up. Which makes sense for that game because there is no reason for anyone else to travel off of the map (since ARMA2 is objective based and there are no objectives "off map").

DayZ does not have jets, but it is still based on ARMA2 so the non-invisible wall off map area is still there. Because of the lack of jets in DayZ there is no legitimate reason to go off map.

Defending the idea of hiding vehicles and tents off map is the essence of a carebear attitude. You have your things and you dont want to lose them, so you take them outside of the normal playing area in an attempt to hide them. You are attempting to avoid the harshness of the game, and avoid other players and the consequences of this.

I have multiple tents (some work, others dont) and have had a number of vehicles that I found, repaired, and used. All of them eventually have gotten raided and stolen because I intentionally keep them on the map where you are supposed to. And it doesnt bother me because that is part of the game, just like being killed is. It happens, shrug it off and move on. But man up and play the game like it is meant to be played.

I think off map vehicle hoarding is the least of our worries when a hacker can loot a camp anywhere almost instantly... nothing is safe and not for the right reasons...

Id support the 2 hour then vehicle respawns post. 24 hours seems a bit pointless to me as the owners could simply start the engine once a day to prevent it vanishing.

Maybe a 9 hour? Some people have jobs. I would like to have a vehicle when I get home from work. If someone finds it good on them but requiring a 2 hour usage is simply stupid.

I've started playing on the same server and have ran most of the map looking for vehicles (while not many players online), couldnt find any.

Then later when server is busy ( i know a clan plays here) I see a heli, a car and a motobike coming from the same direction where I already checked earlier. So next day when not many players online I scan the same area again cant find anything.

After re-reading this in announcements.....

"Vehicles that remain unused for a short period of time (<=24h) outside map boundary now respawns inside map boundary at their original chance based spawn points."

*** Is that a typo and should say >=24h? because thats how it seems to me which isn't working! ***

.....I now suspect this clan is using the vehicles everyday (<24hrs) but storing them off map when not using them.

When is a realistic fix gonna get implemented to actually stop vehicles being stored off-map??!

Here is a better fix that WORKS!:

Any vehicle parked off map should damage itself and blow up within 10 mins of being left unmanned!

make Chenarus an island and off the map will = water

problem solved

Most people commenting on this, have never used a vehicle or kept one for any about of time, they have simply seen on youtube you can get trucks or a bus and now are bitching they haven't got one after 20 minutes of searching and blaming hoarers.

Of course many are going to complain about it because they don't find vehicles, and rightly so. You shouldn't have to live infront of your computer or be a part of a large group to be able to actively use vehicles in DayZ. The gameplay in DayZ would greatly benefit if it wasn't possible to hoard vehicles off map.

The thrill of finding a vehicle is FUN, the task of then maintening and keeping secure is FUN. I've used 4 vehicles in the past month and abit i've been playing. And only just managed to keep a vehicle for the past 3 days. Then we found another, we stored it, we drove it, crashed it, moved on.

It is not fun to spend all of the time required to repair a vehicle only to see it has disappeared the next day, and to know it might be pointless to even look for it because there's a strong probability it will have been stored out of bounds.

Switch server

So you seriously think that players should have to search the map for 2-4 hours, and then switch server if they don't find anything? That's a fun type of gameplay you are defending.

This is meant to be a zombie simulator and realistic, so how does having your car blow up after 6 hours create that? Infact going further with this, there wouldn't be any fuel left in rl so in turn there would be no cars at all.. Anyway getting off point.

How is having a huge desert without ANYTHING in there around populated area with forests and whatnot realistic? The map was made for ARMA not DayZ. In ARMA there is no point going there so devs didn't care about it. In DayZ going off map gives you advantage. For me it's as much of an exploit as alt+f4 is.

And why wouldn't there be any fuel left? Would it disappear? Or maybe it would run out because there would be people looking for it? Maybe we're not there just yet?

Storing it in a place where nobody's gonna find it unless they have a heli or whole day of free time is fun? Why not just make it so the car is locked and invulnerable when you're offline? And you people have the guts to call others carebears?

how to fix this: If you are more than 100 meter off map with a vehicle, it instantly explodes and your tents are deleted.

Butthurt much?

Invisible walls and barriers that kill you are lame. Always, no exceptions.

Making it so that you can't save vehicles outside the map would be a perfectly fine solution.
