Dynami 18 Posted May 27, 2012 Alright, so we all know what happens when we try to group up with people on Ventrilo/Teamspeak!"Oh I see you! Okay guys I foun-*boom boom*"Done. That's it. Now both of you have to restart. How about a feature that allows players to group up? Maybe no more than 2 or 4 at a time. With this feature you can spawn together. Simply group up on the server list.. OR start a group together in-game when you meet each other, so that if the two are you caught in the Bean Wars you'll meet up again when you respawn. Now I do realize as I type this, it probably isn't going to solve our Deathmatch issue as players will just get into groups and do the same thing.. nothing much we can do about that besides fight back until some kind of consequence system is released. The reason why I'd like to propose this- is because I was trying to play with 4 others on Ventrilo today. And we couldn't get more than 2 players together without getting sniped randomly.I mean if we put a real zombie apocalypse in perspective, it's not completely impossible for 2 or more people to start out surviving together. Dynami 18 Posted May 27, 2012 I don't know much about Arma II's engine. I just started this whole thing a couple days ago, you'll have to excuse my ignorance.
prometheus111 1 Posted May 27, 2012 Um...so...basically you want a mechanic that magically spawns you next to your friends rather than getting good at actually playing the game so you can meet up to begin with?
Razor (DayZ) 0 Posted May 27, 2012 No.Navigation is a huge part of the gameplay. If you can't find a safe place to meet up you are bad and should go back to HKO and etc.
tim.balsarini@gmail.com 1 Posted May 27, 2012 its part of the game, well anti-game, but in terms of realism too, you have too meet up with buddies.a system you suggested has been talked about and discussed many times, it can be frustrating trying to meet up with mates sometimes and everyone has been in the situations you just talked about, but i think its part of the reason we all keep coming back to the game. its hard. Pranzo 0 Posted May 27, 2012 It is possible but it won't be as fancy as you might think to turn out to be. In Arma II there is an option to choose your role(ex. Sniper, spotter, machine gunner, squad leader ecc.) and it would group up with your squad(alpha, bravo ecc.). You won't spawn on your teamates but you would see their icons on the map. It is possible to make it so you can spawn on them(Rocket is wizard) but that will mean that you need to choose the same "squad" in the selection menu if you know what I mean. This might end up in random groups being created.
Dynami 18 Posted May 27, 2012 Thanks to the two posters above me for at least understanding. We can't all be "good" at the game within our first few playthroughs. I know the mod is in Alpha, so I thought I'd at least throw my 2 cents.
Jikfive 34 Posted May 27, 2012 Not a good idea. You are suggesting to create a system where death loses much of its impact on the game. It will turn the game into easy mode. *Boom* you are killed by a bandit because you were out in the open but you happen to have a buddy nearby. You spawn in and both of you look for him. *Boom* Now your buddy is the one that is downed by the bandit, but YAY! he magically spawns in on you and you both continue your search. You finally find the bandit and dispatch him. Good job! Its like neither of you got shot! Such a great survival game! Where the whole "survival" idea flies out the window. You are now rewarded for your bad play style and go back to your original corpses get your old loot back and the loot of the bandit.Suck it up. If you and your friends cannot create a plan and safely navigate yourselves and survive alone long enough to reach each other at your designated rendezvous point then you really need work on your game and not ask for mechanics to fill the gaps in your strategies and tactics. Maybe you should ask for a resurrection on the same spot you died just like the fail MMOs are doing now.
grambo (DayZ) 0 Posted May 27, 2012 I like it that dying sends you all the way back to the coast - it means there are consequences for dying, and makes the time that you are alive much more suspenseful. Losing all your stuff and being separated from your friends is, in my opinion, a good level of punishment.I just don't like it that it can take hours to get back to your friends. Twenty minutes, sure, but hours? I think it is a problem with the map being so gigantic. Personally I'd like it if the map were about a third of its size. I understand that the idea of a huge open world is appealing, but I think that the sheer size of ArmA 2's map makes playing with friends too difficult and guarantees that the map is very sparsely populated (given the maximum player count). John (DayZ) 62 Posted May 27, 2012 For the record, there is a difference between not being able to navigate to your friend, and being incredibly bored by having to stroll the equivalent of twenty real world miles because the game felt like spawning you in Otmel twenty-seven consecutive times. You can't really argue that it's "realistic" - I mean, yeah, I hate when I die in real life and then spawn too far away from my friend but come on guys. Razor (DayZ) 0 Posted May 27, 2012 Or you could just respawn until you are content with your starting location.Like most people do.
John (DayZ) 62 Posted May 27, 2012 Which slowly destroys the server you're in, from what I hear. Kind of uncool to do.
