Arma 2 free + operation arrowhead (i just bought it now i am installing it) works on steam?

I have some friends and they are using steam , i don't really use steam .. just for 2 games (that are free to play ofc) , and i want to play with them , the server are separately? I mean , steam servers and normal servers? Can i join a steam server from my normal game? And if i have to use steam , shall i follow a steam guide? (keep in mind that i use arma II FREE + OP arrowhead).

Thanks.

If you get DayZ Commander if allows you to open the game within steam (there is a tickbox under the settings section). That way you can pull up the steam browser and chat with friends. DayZ commander is also a good way of installing the Mod and keeping it up to date.

Other then above the DayZ servers are completely seperate to the steam network. You don't see steam users on the DayZ servers. If you need to find your friends within game, then you all need to login to the same DayZ server and find each other using a Map.

You can also add non-steam game from inside steam menu to have access to steam overlay and friendslist.
