SixTsevN 1 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Hey guys,Had a strange thing happen to me.I found a map and decided to make a little camp near a town so I can thoroughly search it and I marked my camp on the map.I got chased away from my camp because I heard gunfire and bailed (luckily not leaving anything at the camp) but, when I looked on my map to check my next destination. I could see many other map pinpoints that I had not physically entered myself.Do you share map locations with other players?Did I tell everyone on the goddamned map where I was? haha Edited August 9, 2012 by SixTsevN
DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted August 9, 2012 I don't know if all servers allow the option, but individual maps seem to retain notes players have put on them.
thehumandove 344 Posted August 9, 2012 in my experience, the map points are shared by anyone with a map on a specific server. I haven't noticed any that havent been this way.
Ixnay Hombre 10 Posted August 9, 2012 Yea I learned that the hard way. "Camp here"-___-
Aeoneth 163 Posted August 9, 2012 Did the server you were on have side / all chat enabled. If so then if you were in that chat channel when you made the marker then yes everyone else could see the marker. If you were on vehicle / group only you would be able to see it.and direct chat would broadcast the marker to anyone ~40m from you. Shag 90 Posted August 9, 2012 you are technically all blufor, that is all on the same team, so yes you do see everyone's map markings. arma 2 people....

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted August 9, 2012 No. It shows up regardless on other mapsI didn't know it worked like this, I thought it was individual maps.Welp, will definitely be deleting the crashed helis on my favourite server from my map and simply writing down the co-ords instead. Though, the server will have restarted by now, rendering them useless, but I'll keep this in mind in the future.
rmnesbitt@gmail.com 23 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) In dayz we are all on the same team (blufor) the arma engine was designed so that a team would share map markings. So yes, you showed everyone where you were. Next time just mark a place in the woods completely random and annotate it as "Sasquatch sighting" Edited August 9, 2012 by newt0n
DZK 1 Posted August 9, 2012 i use the map to tell other players where broken vehicles are so i can kill them or steal them after they repair it.
Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted August 9, 2012 The map is shared between players. Everyone is technically on the same side, cause it's arma. Since everyone is on the same side, notes on the map are shared. This can produce some unintended hilarious effects and sometimes griefing.I'm not sure if this is a server option, but on the servers I play, it seems to be in effect.
