caliban32@gmail.com 0 Posted May 27, 2012 I know its still Alpha so forgive me If this has been raised already. At the moment its extremely hard to meet up with people in game because of the large size of the game, and not having an ingame map. So this is my solution to make it easier to hook up with friends ingame and still keep the emergence of exploration while doing it.Choosing Spawn locationsWhen you enter the game or when re-spawning a new life in the game, being able to choose which city to start in. This will spawn the player in the city of their choosing from a map or selection screen. Players looking to meet can spawn in the same city but in random locations. This should keep that emergent element of exploration when looking for players but make it more likely to actually meet up and form a group.
TheCoolestCat 1 Posted May 27, 2012 Maybe if you spawned like ten miles from the city?

Not sure about spawning within a city, but perhaps being able to choose to be 5-10 mins walk away from a city of your choice would be a nice idea. Although in a sense I guess being split up from your friends acts as another reason to fear death... it's a difficult topic, though personally I'd be inclined to be more on the side of making things easier in terms of meeting up with friends... madmaxx@madmaxx.info 0 Posted May 27, 2012 You know how much ten miles are? Yeah, thats pretty much exactly the distance from one end of the map to the other SQRT(215 km²) = 15 km

A lot of people would probably choose Cherno or Elektro because of the action and the loot spawns, but why is that a bad thing? As is, those people just end up spawning in and running for a long time.
_Profile_Shame 37 Posted May 27, 2012 random spawns is part of what makes this game great. no influence over where you start forces you to adapt - finding another player is an adventure in itself.
Razor (DayZ) 0 Posted May 27, 2012 Was already proposed earlier today, albeit in a much worse form: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7866Having easy choices is not what this game is or should be about. You know how much ten miles are? Outlaw (DayZ) 1 Posted May 27, 2012 Well a lot of peops respawn until they are near cherno/elektro. The current system creates pointless masterserver lag. Let the people choose a spawnpoint and masterserver load is reduced by a great margin.
caliban32@gmail.com 0 Posted May 28, 2012 The point is that I have been trying to play with a few friends and we are finding it impossible to be able to meet up, and we have been playing for a week! All died many times in the process and just haven't been able to get spawns in the right location. I think respawning until we get the right location is actually a good idea for now.You could have a random spawn point that gives you the same kind of spawn as now. Or the option to choose a region allowing for players to group up eventually. It could even be as simple as North and South spawn regions.Just some ideas.. Razor (DayZ) 0 Posted May 28, 2012 You are doing it wrong. We travel in groups of 3 to 5 players in northern part and when i die i easily get back to my buds in under one hour with enough gear to be useful.
Littlenorwegians 3 Posted May 28, 2012 Random spawns are fine, but let us be allowed to join with our friends when we all spawn. It does not remove any of the realism or harshness, it stops you from dicking around for hours on a beach. It's not exciting, not challenging and does not anything to the experience.
