chibigoat 59 Posted May 27, 2012 So I've been thinking a little bit and I started thinking because I was feeling a sort of boredom, like the only way to be entertained further with DayZ is to go around killing people, otherwise there's no point. You find gear and then what... you go and kill people. That's not the point of this game, the point of this game is survival and realism, you should be treating this game as if it's real life which may sound ridiculous but it's a simulator and that's simply how you're supposed to take it. I'll be honest, I've been playing this game for maybe a week now and have 65 hours logged, maybe after the first 3-4 days I became a bandit and killed most everyone I came across simply because I was tired of being killed for no reason, this is not what people should be doing, at least not without cause. We should take absolutely every thing that happens in this game and apply it to real life, "what would I do in this situation" or at least what do you think you would do because obviously you wouldn't positively know. It's true that there are crazy ass people in this world and if a sort of zombie apocalypse were to come to be then these people would most likely become serial killers but in DayZ I'd guess at least 70% of people are serial killers whether that's because they have to kill people to survive (which easily comes with the alternative of asking for a few supplies) or they kill people for the fun of it. These people who kill for the fun of it should actually be mentally messed up in real life, though this is technically a game it's been talked about by rocket and some others that it's more of an anti-game which I take to be you don't just do whatever you want for fun, you do what you have to do to survive because this is a simulator, it's here to simulate what might happen in real life, so you should take it that way.I think a primary reason for bandits killing others for fun is simply that... it's fun for them. I don't think they have considered the alternative though. I read the forums a whole lot and have seen what people hate and what people love and what they want changed or fixed or whatever. So a lot of what I'm saying is based off of that and my in-game experience. That alternative, which I recently read in a post is to, like I've been saying, take it as if it were real life. You should be sneaking through every aspect of this, just imagine as if there's a sniper on every mountain top and a horde of zombies around every corner because these two situations could very well come to be. I've been that sniper on the mountain top and no, I don't regret it but I can say with a sort of confidence that I don't plan to do that again because that's in no way realistic to what I personally think I would do in a zombie apocalypse situation.I create this thread with hopes of making people realize that this is a simulator and unless you truly think you would kill people in real life in cold blood (which is extremely unlikely) then you should not be doing that in this game. An argument presented against this is that "COD fags" are picking up this game and are the ones killing people for fun and don't give a shit if it's a simulator. That does indeed present a problem but I don't see any real way of getting rid of these people, they paid the money for the game so they should be allowed to do what they want, right? Your response to this doesn't have to be "KILL EVERYBODY, FUCK EVERYTHING! GRRGLGLRGLRG". A realistic response would be to hide and blend in with the shadows, in real life people are programmed to do absolutely everything to avoid death, this game is attempting to simulate real life.. think about it.I think with that, there should be nobody running along the coast or running along roads or railroads or through the center of a city which comes as a sort of common sense but simply because there are bandits out to get you. You know bandits are out to get you, don't give them the pleasure of getting that kill. People should be adapting to the night, where it's much more difficult to be seen and detected, in that situation it is much easier for you to be sneaky and to loot that store. I know this is much easier said than done because I myself prefer day time but if it's what you have to do then it's what you have to do. Survival is #1 priority, you should rarely encounter people and if you do then you should have the jump on them because your priority is survival. Murder can be justified only if you truly are doing it to survive. If your blood is at 200 and slowly going down maybe because you're sick, then you should kill that guy for his beans, you may not even have time to ask but if you do have the time, you should do that first.A little tip, I've noticed that if people don't reply right away to "friendly" they are either one: A noob who doesn't know how to use chat, or two: hostile. That DOES NOT mean go kill them (unless you are extremely close to death such as the 200 blood scenario) because by going to them and shooting them you are severely risking your own life, they could shoot back or you could agro zombies or both. You should feel a sort of connection with your in-game player as weird as that may sound. Kind of like if you were in the Gamer situation (You know, that movie where the people control the guys in jail in a sort of war). In the end, people will do what they want but I'd really like to see people try to avoid going over to the dark side though it may be easier or more fun, survival is not easy and it's not supposed to be fun, that sounds a little odd since we are indeed playing this game because it's fun, but hopefully you understand what I mean. That'll be all for now.[EDIT]: If you feel like these bandits are too tough for you, train yourself. Play through the boot camp levels or play through the actual campaign or something, look up videos on real army stealth tactics, do what you need to do to avoid dying by the hands of these people who can't take the game seriously.PS: I don't give a shit if this has been posted.. which I know it has but this is opinion based meaning it is literally impossible for somebody else to have posted this so please, whoever wants to whine about this being posted already or being in the wrong place, get off my nuts. Also, I know there are separate forums for both bandits and survivors but I want everybody to be able to see this. Thanks for reading,- Chibigoat
Tagojen 0 Posted May 27, 2012 I really wish people played this way. But as of right now there isn't enough substance to keep people playing with out reverting to PvP. Things like Trade and scarcity of items causes people to play like you want... But as of now, ammo and weapons are far too ubiquitous, as in there is not real reason not to shoot every living thing because chances are, you have a lot of ammo and so do they. This causes people to go into COD mode where their life revolves around "PwnING NoObs" with their "M4D Sk1llz". I long for the day when people play the game with the emotional investment and humanity that I think most people start off with until they realize that such feelings and play style are superfluous when running and gunning is the name of the game. But sadly I don't feel like this is a reasonable expectation considering the games current popularity and exposure. Also, on a final note, one of the key components to your suggested play style is value of life. Personal or otherwise. Considering that you get as many spawns as you like, life really looses its inherent value. If everyone only got one life and that was it, I believe you'd see a really big change in player dynamics...but this is a game and a one life system defeats the purpose. I just wanted to agree with you on certain points but also point out as to why what you ask is a pipe dream.

At the same time though I could see people wanting to kill others for their ammo... Damn you vicious circle!
aquilez 16 Posted May 27, 2012 Cry moar you baby.Just putting that there because eventually someone else will. If everyone played like you described, this would be my dream game. Since there are no real lasting consequence to dieing, stuff like you mentioned wont happen. Now if there was a severe death penalty and much less ammo in the world... As well as some way to prevent server hopping so much (Which is probably already in the works but can't be added in because of the server problems), then the game community will change. The best way to survive in this game like I tell many people, is to shoot anyone that is going to cause you problems and is not grouped up. Virfortis 111 Posted May 27, 2012 DayZ can only be truly experienced when everyone puts effort and feeling into their actions. In other words, it needs the exact opposite of the majority gamer, it needs to be solely for the niche.Sadly, it's being dominated by the majority as always.I say let the hype die down, let the CoD style Deathmatch players realize this game is boring to them and they'll walk off. It'll be a wave where we all get "this sucks, I'm gone" threads, but it's merely growing pains. Let us, as the real community, press on in these forums and lecture those around us that DayZ requires PLAYER input into content just as much as developer creation.DayZ is, for all intents and purposes, the Minecraft of the FPS genre. It shouldn't have been popular, nobody knows why it exploded, but it's so super hyped right now that there's people wanting 15 billion different things. Soon things will settle into nice, quiet groups with only the occasional "griefer" that will play long enough to get bored and move on.
Stick (DayZ) 0 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm a bandit, I kill you for supplies. Not for the fun of it. If I ask you for supplies, after that whats to say you won't just kill me either if we group up? I have no reason to trust anyone. This game doesn't need teamwork. Mainly due to the fact I can sneak around zombies, but if one catches me in a town, I'm dead anyway. chibigoat 59 Posted May 27, 2012 Cry moar you baby.Just putting that there because eventually someone else will.Lol, appreciate it. I do want to clarify that I don't have a problem with bandits in the way of being killed by them, so I'm not complaining about that. I don't usually have much of an issue killing bandits, I'm talking about what would make this game ideal.
