Entering game as the wrong character

This is the third time this happened to me, and this doesn't happen every time. I will log out, come back a few days later and everything about my save is wrong.

The first time was right after I found a nice tent full of gear. A few days later I spawned with an entirely new character after not dying.I thought to myself" no big deal the game is only in alpha," and just moved on. However, the second time this happened occured the following day, which was shocking because my character had tons of gear that was not mine from neither of my previous attempts.

Today it happened again. I found myself above Stary Sobor which confused me because when I logged out on Sunday i was in the NE part of the map. Also on Sunday I died and had to run from Elektro and return to that corner of the map, needless to say all I had on my body was an axe and some vehicle parts. When I spawned today, I had a full toolbelt, a nice gun, food, medical supplies, etc..

Does this happen to anyone else? Is it just some wires "getting crossed" in the hive? What explaination could there be?

Edit: I logged out right after I saw my character changed. Came back to play and had a to create a new character.

I was south of Berezino in a small 1 room house when I logged out. I logged in 2 hrs later and was glitched inside the wall and floor, so I was stuck...I couldn't get out until I tried to go prone and crawl out, which worked, but I crawled out in stary sober, with no gear, and before that I had a kobra and PDW I found on a dead guy. Very odd.
