I know you're looking to add side missions and what not, but one of my clan mates had an idea.

At random parts of the day you could have a c130 fly overhead and drop off a supply box at a random part of the map, this gives something for people to work towards to as they may see the plane fly over and follow it in hopes of getting the paradropped goodies.

Once again this is just an idea, it may not fit in with what you considered but I'm sure it will provide much fun.

It's a thought. Looking forward to what surprises we can run into in the future.

I really like this idea, are we talking the plane leaving several small drops along its path or one big drop that's like a community event?

The fiormer one is more simple but the latter sounds like it has a lot of potential; if the drop location is announced to all the survivors only then they could meet up there, trade, chat, heal and maybe even get hostile if someone gets too greedy.

Bandits could still find them by either being lucky enough to see where it got dropped or by following a survivor they suspect of going to the drop point. In that case they have an amazing haven of prey and loot.

That's the point, and i'm thinking one medium sized drop or something, nothing too extravagant to stick with the post apocalyptic theme.

This is a great idea. It should drop once every two hours (considering the amount of time people have to play) and with red smoke grenades and a few flares in case it's nighttime. It would really liven play up. It should also contain four or five good NATO, survival equipment and medical spawns in it (maybe four for each to represent a rearming fire team). Haha can you imagine someone's face in finding one and only getting broken cans out of it?

This is a great idea, the only problem that I see is putting the plane into the game. I'm no modder/programmer, but that might be a little bit of a chore.

Maybe something like a random spawn that happens every X hours and an on-screen message appears telling you where the crate may be found near, not exact locations, but say: "Supply Crate has dropped near Chernorgorsk. X hours til next drop."

I think the use of prompts is is unnecessary only because we should be able to intuitively find the drop using what we have available to us. A jet sound could be heard high and in a certain direction (you wouldn't see the plane) and players could check their watches (finally giving them an actual use) and so keep track of drops that way. Binoculars would be helpful in scouting out and locating them. I believe that the in game prompts should only be there as confirmation for completing an action.

Also, for the sake of not making every drop a shitfest, it would be prudent to limit the sound of the plane to two square kilometers and have it be in a random quarter of the map each time. It should never be predictable.

+10 to this idea. Really like it, and it sorta gives a "side mission" without technically being one.

I think those drop-points would be a perfect spot for bandits.

I wouldn't even give hints on where it was dropped.

Make it a random position. People can figure out where it landed by watching the plane fly and seeting the goods fall down (on a parachute).

If that is too hard, the drop could include a flare which lights up the dropsite for a while.

Alternately (suggested by someone else before), instead of having a supplydrop, it could be a helicopter or plane crash. Atleast that makes more sense to me than a c130 dropping (possibly military grade) supplies in the middle of nowhere. Again this wouldn't be too hard to locate if you see its flight-path, especially with the impact and all that.

I don't mind this, first decent idea i have read!, atleast its not trying to make this mod into an expansion pack for the sims.

Would have some good pvp fights for the crate!.

How about putting a c130 in the game so I can crash it into Cherno for my 9/11 tribute?

If it were to drop supplies however, I am assuming it would only be things like food/water maybe sandbags etc. What kind of government drops weapons and ammo to random citizens lol.

Vehicles can be a excellent base for supplies (seen in game already), if timed random spawns is 'easily' implemented, another option could be a convoy and slain soldiers in random towns.

Realistically a planned drop would be unlikely in just some random spot. If they were trying to help survivors they would logically concentrate the drops where most of the survivors were likely to be... Cherno, Elektro, etc. Maybe random but have the drop focus on towns and villages...

+1 with the crashed helicopter/plane/truck variant.

This could happen every 2 or 3 hours, at completely random locations and last for one or two day before disappearing.
