Steam only? [question]

Ok so tomorrow i will buy operation arrowhead via Gamestop... and my question is:

In order to play this mod i have to use steam only? Keep in mind that i buy just OP arrowhead , arma 2 will be the free one.

I searched on internet but i can see just tutorials linked to steam users? If anyone could help me i would be very happy.

I have Arma2 installed on Steam, however, I use SixLauncher to launch Dayz and it completely bypasses Steam, making it inactive in my game
