can't find any loot

I'm fairly new to the game as I just bought Arma2 last week. But I've already managed to survive for 4 days once. Last night however I started a new character and spawned near elektro. I found a winchester and some loot and then went to this barn just to the west of the elektro fire station. According to dayzmap.info there should be 12 loot spawns in there but I could only find about 5 or 6 and it was mostly trash. Then I went to bed and continued today. The barn was completly empty when I spawned (maybe this is a new feature to prevent players from farming the same building over and over again?) Then I went to the fire station and it was almost empty as well. There was not a single gun in there! Not even ammo for my winchester! No food or drinks. The only things I found were lots of trash, 2 DMR mags, an M9 mag and 2 g17 mags (all useless to me) as well as 1 bandage. I thought the fire station was a great place to loot (last time when I was in the cherno fire station it was). Almost the same thing happened in elektro a bit later. In the office building, the hotel and the supermarket I found a lot more trash than usual (about 50%) and the rest was mainly useless ammo for the m1014 but almost no ammo for the winchester...

Also when one zed followed me into the fire station and I shot him (I thought the winchester wasn't too loud?) it attracted more than 20 zeds. But 2 minutes ago there weren't even so many of them around. The same happened a bit later in elektro. One zed followed me into a house and I killed him with the hatchet (!) and even that attracted 2 other zombies!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. 2 Days ago I looted cherno and had a lot more success, I found more useful loot and didn't get in many fights with zombies. I'm also playing on a very low population server (only 3 or 4 other players) so it's very unlikley that another player got all the loot right before I arrived... Maybe it has something to do with the server difficulty or a new patch or I might just be really fucking unlucky...
