thoughts about similar survival games

Recommended Posts

hi folks iam pretty new to this game, playing it since 4 days yet. i immediately remembered 2 older survival simulation games from the french developer silmarils when i first read about dayz and then got the first gaming experience. these older games are "robinsons requiem" released in 1994 i think and "deus" (not "deus ex") released in 1996. there are several gameplay videos on youtube for robinsons for example

and for deus
. does anyone of you remember these games?

i loved these 2 games for the complexity of their survival mechanisms and was sad that no developer later ever released a game which was similar to these. dayz is the first game i got rid of which has at least some parallels. maybe some of the dayz-developers could play robinson and/or deus to get some new ideas for a medical/food/drinking/personal hygene system. the survival system of these two games are very comlex. you have for example like 20 different medical supplies like aspirin, painkillers, chinin to be able to take care about a huge variety of different diseases like cold or food poisoning. the environment in the games is very dangerous (like in dayz) and you can get diseases from a huge variety of different sources and in every occasion. if you for example drink water which wasnt cooked before you get stomach problems and if you dont care about it with medicine it becomes worse and worse over time and you can die from it. or if your leg is broken you need to find wood and bandages to make some leg splint out of it. otherwise you can only walk very slowly. and you also have to take care about your body temperature. if you are in a cold area you have to wear warm clothes like fur clothes which you of course need to make yourself before by hunting furry animals, skinning them and then combining their skin with needle and yarn. there are almost unlimited possibilities to play around with this deeply complex survival system. you can even amputate the arms or legs of your avatar if you got bitten by a poisonous animal you dont have antidote against. these are only some very few examples of all the possibilies in this game. at best you have to try the games yourself. the graphics are of course old today but the games are still very intersting and challenging.

to implement all these options in dayz would be of course too much i think but maybe some developers can get some new ideas from these 2 old french games. how to make the survival system of dayz more comfortable to use, easier understandable and in a more attractive design with a seperate health care menu like in robinson or deus.

so far, i hope you like my ideas. what do you think about it?
