2 In-Game Information Questions

When there is a read out on the bottom of "Player XYZ was killed."

Does that mean refer to any death ie by player or zombie or bleed out or fall etc.. or does it only show up if someone was killed by another player?

Also is there a quick way to tell how many people are currently on your server? I know you can press P to show the players on and i counted last night and it shows 18 down to the scroll down button but is there a quick readout anywhere on that screen that i am missing? or maybe one on a different screen?

2. Sorry don't know how to check in-game, but when you log into a server it should give you the number at that moment in time e.g. 26/40
