Stop calling yourself a bandit

I am by no means the correct or incorrect term of bandit, lol. Avoiding other players like the plague isn't really what I would consider banditry. I have also never robbed anybody. See this shitty screenshot from a few minutes ago. Sitting down, making a fire, having some steak. This is pretty much how I've been playing this whole game.

That's fun? To each their own I guess but this begs the question: Why do you care so much about what people call themselves if you don't even actively participate in ANY of it? You sit in the woods, kill pigs, cook them, eat them, kill a few zombies, and just suddenly decide "I really don't like how this term 'bandit' is being used." ?

Just trying to find some logical thought in this.

Please tell me where in that it says that a bandit is someone who kills people? An outlaw or gangster does not directly mean that they kill people. Gangs have gang wars, meaning they go against other groups of people. One person on a hill by Cherno is not a gangster. Gangs also form organized raids, something also rarely seen by these snipers around big loot spawns. Why not take your buddies, and have a few people provide overwatch, and send in three or four people to raid the barracks? That is an organized raid. Definition 3. "One who cheats or exploits others." Camping with an AS50 is not cheating someone out of their stuff. Guns are not con artists. Definition one. "A robber, especially one who robs at gunpoint."

So please, if you're going to kill people, at least stop calling yourself a bandit. Call yourself a killer. Call yourself a murderer, I really don't care. But I'm sick of people posting things that say "I am a bandit" or "Bandits like me".

Enough. The only person who is clearly a bandit is AceBane. As for the others who rob, good for you. I can't identify you, but for all the killers who call yourself bandits, No. You're wrong. Call yourself something else.

Make up a name for all I care. Feel free to throw in any suggestions below. You are not a bandit.

You didn't answer my question. Why do you care what people call themselves? You can certainly play the game any way you want (hence the 'to each their own') but I'm simply wondering why this is such a big deal to you since you don't even interact with bandits, aside from self preservation I assume. Don't take this as me attacking your stance. I just want to see your side of the argument, putting aside the literal and interpretive definition of the word 'bandit'.

I eventually became fed up with seeing all these people putting "Derp, I'm a bandit", etc. Basically it's my grammar skills that are highly irritated by this. I just want to see more proper terms used.

Gotcha. If it isn't changed in the standalone version I'd just think of it this way. Seeing as how it's the zombie apocalypse, obviously the already 'bad' people that exist will become worse. I would think that in that current state, the term bandit could be interpreted different ways. More than likely it would still refer to being robbed and things like that but in this hypothetical future I think people would use terms like bandit to describe the ones that rob and kill you as well.

That said, my guess is that it's 'bandit' simply because it works for the game. It sounds kind of cool and for the people who are bandits can say proudly "I'm a bandit". Saying "I'm a murderer." would be more accurate but hardly has the same feel and connotation.

I think the most appropriate term to replace bandit should be highwayman. Seems like it fits a little better with how the word is used in books/movies/tv.

How about you put your dictionary sleuthing skills to work and look up "slang".

For example... you are a douche bag. You may not actually be a container holding a cleansing liquid meant for a woman's vagina... but that is what you are.
